I've asked a million questions about STJ but we are also going to be at Secret Harbor on STT for 2 days. Where are the good but not too expensive places to eat on the Red Hook side of the island?

I know that the Blue Moon Cafe is right there but dinners look a little expensive for our tastes especially considering we have a 5 year old.

Thanks and only 6 days until we leave!!!

Dale:

Here are the ones I can think of off top of my head:

Duffy's Love Shack - decent drinks, music (dj), inexpensive but mediocre food. More of a party place.

Molly Malones - Irish pub with bar food and entrees

Caribbean Saloon - Sports bar with bar food (of course) and entrees as well

East Coast Cafe - Mainly pasta dishes (we did not eat there..... IMHO a little on the expensive side).

Bistro XO - In shopping plaza where Duffy's is. Little place with bar food.

The Frigate - Steak house (is it still there?)

Burito Deli - Breakfast and lunch

Off the Hook - Seafood Restaurant

Ice Cream Shop (name?) - Hey..... who doesn't love ice cream.

Well from memory, thats the best I can do. Hopefully others will chime in.

Good list, TMax. Also, Grateful Deli and Wok & Roll in Red Hook. To the north is Fungi's and Toad and Tart Pub. Out past Secret Harbour is the Elysian with Bonnie's and Robert's (2 different places.) If you'll be on St. Thomas on a Sunday, try the Sapphire Beach Resort Sunday afternoon party. And then there's the Texas Barbecue Stand, which parks itself in Red Hook I think in front of the Poor Man's Pub. Anyone know it's schedule?

The Frigate is in flux. There is a take-out Chinese spot called Wok and Roll, as well as a pizza place, Senor Pizza, that will deliver in the east end. Pirate's Cove is near the Food Center for pizza and burgers. Also Bottom's Up at Independent Boat Yard, also burgers, etc. Molly Molone's is a good place for a 5 year old, good value for the buck. Blue Moon has a bar menu that they will serve on the patio that is less pricy.

Don't forget Dotties Front Porch in Compass Point. Entrees are $15 and she will make a special sort of plates for picky five year olds. Grateful Deli was looking a little on the shabby side last I was there.

what's going on with the Frigate? Is it closing? It has nice views in the evening.

We just got back and liked Bonnies and Blue Moon a little better than Off the Hook, which surprised us a little.

Grateful Deli might be good for lunch or made to order breakfast, but seems to have slim pickins for grab n go pastries and the like.

Dale,

A few of our personal favorite spots.
(not in any order)

Robert's (Elysian Beach Resort) have Paige make you a frozen drink...un-belevable. Have the She Crab soup w/a bit of Brandy in it...great...sit at the bar, Paige is an"old school" bartender, you'll have fun (tell him Pat & Sue sent you)

Bonnies (Elysian) good lunch menu burgers and sandwiches (try the wings) nice seting on the beach

Molly Malones...Saturday AM, bottomless Bloody Marys/Mamosa's(sp?)

Greatfull Delli...good deli sandwiches...low cost

Bottoms Up...local hang out at the Independance Boat Yard...good bar menu, inexpensive

Burito Deli...ate there for the first time last year, had a good lunch not expensive at all

Blue Moon (Secret Harbor)...good lunch menu, try the chicken cesar salid

Just a few suggestions, enjoy your vacation.

Dale:

I can see how this list of restaraunts could be overwhelming especially if you are not familiar with Red Hook. Once you get there it will make more sense. The restaurants I mentioned are all in Red Hook and within walking distance from eachother. You can walk to each one and check out their menus and then pick whichever suits your budget and taste.

I would think Molly Malones would be a good bet for both adults and 5-year olds.

From the other posts on this topic, the Elysian Beach Resort sounds fun too. Two restaurants to choose from and they are on the beach?

The ice cream place mentioned in the first post is called the Cold Stone Creamery. It is wonderful. It is a little pricey for ice cream but it is well worth it. If you go, don't get a large. It is way to much.

I've had ice cream at a Cold Stone before. Very dangerous!

dale....since you are only at SH for two days it won't be worth buying a bunch of groceries to cook in the room...
but maybe try the beach bar for last call lunch at three pm! it is cheaper than dinner at blue moon(same kitchen) and maybe you can even order something at lunch to heat up in the room for dinner later(full kitchens)
this way at least one day you won't have to run around town searching for food...

then the other day go all out and eat at blue moon or one of the places in town for dinner...
personally i would stick to blue moon since you will be able to just relax and roll over to your room easily....
try getting (this is what i did a lot) an appetizer and dessert that is always the cheaper way to go...fill up more at lunch

ok for the others
i like fungi too but you have to drive and it is better for lunch than dinner...

are you taxi ing or driving
