My wife and I are frequent STT visitors and absolutely love it there. So much so that we're looking into purchasing a place there. Have some questions tho and were thinking some of you could help. Property taxes. Are there any and if so how much? Which area is the most desirable. We would love a great view and safety is an issue. Accessability to everything is important. (dah, you're on an island) We have friends that have a place near St. Peters and think thats where we would like to be near. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Better probably to post this on the relocation forum but you should also probably plan on a visit to work with some realtors and see what's available at what cost. To designate a good area is difficult as there are "bad" spots in "good" areas and "good" spots in "bad" areas - hard to explain. You said your friends live near "St. Peters" - did you mean Peterborg? Cheers!

I found the relocation forum after I posted. St. Peter Great House is near our friends place. We did spend some time looking last year with a realtor while we there and got some good info. Just looking for other peoples inputs. Thanks.

Here is a shot at what you asked. I've been down here since 85 on a part time basis and full time after 2002.

The real estate price is very related to view, beach access, size and location. If you look at the Island trader or the dalily news you will prices all over the map. They start at around 300-400K for a nice home with a beach view to multi millions. The taxes are pretty cheap down here as compaired to NJ taxes. A typical one bedroom condo runs about 1200/year and houses go all over the place. And the tax rate is chaning this year so who knows what it will go up to. But it will go up.

There is no income tax or sales tax but there is a tax on everything that comes into the island. So in a way you are paying a sales tax on everything.

I can not tell you how important it is to come down and look before you move. Also you should look at the relocation page. You will see other people who are in the same situation. Spenf a few $ before you might loose a lot.!!!

Good luck and if you want to talk call 340-715-5220.
