I'm looking at Captain Nautica's power raft expeditions for a day sail and snorkeling. Has anyone been on this trip? The other one I found is Breakaway. I'd appreciate any info from people who have done this type trip. Thanks a bunch

Last June we took a day sail trip from the Coki Beach area on the New Horizon. It is a large catamaran and has room for about 40 people. We had a group of 10 and there were probably 20 or so more people on this trip and it never really felt crowded. We sailed to St John and stopped at about 3 spots to snorkel. They served a light lunch and had the bar open during the entire trip. It cost about $120 per person plust tip for the crew. The captain and crew were great and we had a fantastic time. They supplied all the equipment needed to snorkel and were very helpful. We went with this group because our villa guy recommended them and it turned out to be a good choice for us. Just make sure you take along plenty of sunscreen and a hat that won't blow off in the breeze. Our trip sacraficed two hats to the ocean gods.

My wife and I did the New horizons day trip last May. Can't praise them enough! Great crew, lots of room to relax, great food and drink. Took us to 2 different locations that day and both were spectacular. We'll definately go back.

I've been on the Captain Nautica trips several times - both on the half day and the Baths full day - and highly recommend them from all aspects. Their crew members are delightful, the operation is extremely well-run and there is plenty of time for great snorkelling and swimming. I'd give them a 10 any day!

Hi,

I am taking the New Horizons trip also. Do we need to bring a jacket for the ride there in the early morning or will it be warm early on?

I am leaving for my first trip tomorrow out of San Diego on a red eye and will be ariving around noon. Will it be too hot to be in jeans or should we change out our clothes into something lighter on ourlayover at JFK?

Hi Dawn, Leave the jeans at home you will not need them. Only a swimsuit and light cover- up. I had the little sundress type or a wrap skirt and t-shirt. I was putting the sunscreen on at 7:45am. I did use a long sleeve rash guard when snorkeling to keep from getting sun burned and it worked. I got chilled a few times after coming out of the water but warmed up with a beach towel. If it rains you may want to grab a rain poncho. But don't let a rainy morning spoil your day; chances are it will clear up. It was pouring rain one morning before a day sail and by 9am the sun poked out and we had a glorious day.

CajunLady - we just took 4 daysails for snorkeling on smaller boats than the ones you mentioned. If you want any info about them watch for my trip report in the next few days or send me a PM.
