I've just completed my honeymoon vacation booking for Bolongo Bay for October 9th thru 16th. Can anyone reply to what we might expect for that time of year? Weather, tourism, etc, etc. The soon to be wife and I are really excited about our honeymoon in STT. Just a bit of info would be appreciated. I've started to see a lot of postings about locals versus vistors, muggings and such but I'm hoping it isn't necessarily true. We both are very friendly and respectful individuals. Thanks for the help.

Hello Pat,

Bolongo Bay is a nice family run hotel. The beach there isn't the nicest on St. Thomas in terms of comparing beaches because its somewhat rocky in the water area. The sand part of the beach is fine. There is a great casual restaurant there - Iggies. Also they have a good Caribbean show. The staff is friendly. Weather in October - click on the weather link at the top of this page, its on the right hand side. There you will find average temperatures by month, average rain fall etc. October is the in between month - between off season and season. September is one of our slowest of off season and things start picking up some in October and November and then December we are back in season. If you want to do some planning you might get one or two guidebooks like those shown at the top of this page. The Explore the Virgin Islands is a good one that covers each island. Have a wonderful time.

Islander,

Thanks a bunch. I really would like to do some scuba diving to see some really nice marine life (fish, etc.). Do you recommend scuba or snorkel? I myself am a bit of an adventurer. I'd also like to deep sea fish but it is my honeymoon so the time with the new wife important. Also if we do decide to go swimming where do you recommend that we can go to a nice quiet beach where swimming can be done without the rocky part. We are really looking forward to being there. Thanks you.

Pat

Hello Pat,

I recommend both snorkeling and scuba - totally different experiences. If you aren't dive certified you can do intro classes. Nice beaches; Magens Bay, Sapphire, Secret Harbor, Bluebeards Beach at Ritz Carlton... check out the Beach Guide on this site. Scroll to the top of this page and click on St. Thomas and then choose Beach Guide from the drop down menu. There is good snorkeling on St. Thomas, which is easy to get to from the beach, at Coki, Sapphire and Secret Harbor. You guys could try parasailing, that’s a little adventurous :). Maybe rent a dinghy over on St. John and go beach hopping, take a picnic lunch and drinks with you.

Have a good time.

If you have not already arranged one, I strongly suggest a day sail out of Red Hook. You can get a small 6 people max charter or one of the larger 'party' boats going to BVI. You will get more snorkeling in and your other half will enjoy the experience.

I would recommend a day trip to the BVI to the Baths. New Horizons II (Johnny Quest) is a great one. You tour the baths and snorkel and hang out at a beach. This is a well rounded trip for a honeymoon and they limit their guests to 12.
