Okay, so where do we get the rum punch drinks, cause we have totally missed that in passed trips?

It's on your left after you've entered the terminal, before you get to the baggage claim/restaurant area.
Just a small cart with maybe a blue (?) awning. If you were in too much of a rush and too focused on getting to your luggage you may have missed it.

Just a question...every year we have gone down they have yelled "RUM PUNCH"....last year, however, it changed to a medley of "RUM PUNCH....TAKE A SIP, LEAVE A TIP!"....and the latter was much louder than the former. I am all about tipping, but tips shouldn't be expected. Aside from the blast of humidity as one steps off the plane, the rum punch is often one's first official welcome to the island; thus, being expected to dig through my myriad belongings to gather change as I'm walking through the airport just seems ridiculous. It was the first year we didn't grab a sip of punch because we felt less than welcome in doing so.

So did the rum punch policy change, did I just never notice the begging for tips in the past, or did I just come on a bad day? Again, before anybody bashes me...I LOVE TIPPING...YAY...TIPS, TIPS, TIPS. But I prefer doing it starbucks style..little tip jar on the counter filled with cash and change.

We've always tipped them. I don't know about policy change.

right...it's fine to tip. but they pretty much acted like they were requiring a tip for any drink. period. there wasn't the usual crowd surrounding them, either...i think everyone was put off a bit.

Here's our take...a tip is a tip, whether they're pushing for it or you have it ready. Some of the restaurants we went to in Cabo had tip already included (20%)...didn't matter how maNy were in your party. That was a first for us!

Can't sit still on this one. Wait staff are paid far below min. wage, we all know that. Plus they work extremely hard for their money. I so appreciate "service" when we receive it and will tip "until the cows come home" for it!

A rum punch after hard air schedule to get to to paradise is worth the the best tip ever!

They enjoy the tips. They should not ask for them. They may be getting a little out of hand. Will check into it.

We'll be back there on Tuesday...I'm curious to see if they chant "take a sip, leave a tip". Like I said, last year was the first time we ever heard them actually say that.

By the way, who sponsors the samples? Someone has to pay for the ingredients and the servers, right? Are they meant to sell a product, lure people to the airport liquor store, or are they simply meant to welcome people to the island?

And as I think further about this, if the samples are meant primarily as a sales tool, why are the servers asking for tips in the first place? Do we tip the sample ladies at costco, the food court at the mall, or any other place? No, we buy their products. Really, I don't mind dropping some change into a tip jar, but I have no intention of doing so when someone is yelling "take a sip, leave a tip" with a scowl on her face. For the first time, we just walked right past the booth (as did most other tourists)...it really was a turn-off.

I agree Crystal,
When I was there last it was the scowl thing going on when I reached for my sip. I didn't take it.
They had no idea if I was gonna tip or not.
I felt like the samples were maybe meant for visiting royalty, not me.

It's sponsored by the Dept. of Tourism. Cruzan supplies the rum I believe. Those Seniors that run it need some lessons in hospitality. Most of them are not from St Thomas which I take exception to.

Think that they should be in the departure lines ... maybe there would be less complaining about the airport! lol Of the multitude of times I've gone past that booth, I've always gotten a pleasant greeting

CShell,
You must leave a hell'va tip.

Sometimes I wonder if the scowl is left over from the person before me, but again, it was really hot
that day.
