Strange to find no mention in this forum of the strip club that planned for the former Mixology Warehouse space at the Lumberyard complex in downtown Cruz Bay. Oh yeah - this won't add to the crime problem that doesn't exist.

I am not a prude (and have known to visit these types of establishments while in Vegas), but a strip club on STJ!!!??? I am surprised that no one is up in arms about this... (yet) How about a gigantic casino next?

exitzero: well, that makes sense.

Seriously, though, attempts at running strip clubs on the islands are nothing new and they fold as quickly as they open because neither the local nor the tourist economy supports them after the initial broo-ha-ha when people go to them just to see what it's all about.

I'm personally not against strip clubs and visited many as a youngster both in London and later in American cities. Over the years I met several young women who stripped for a living and have had many an interesting conversation with them, just because I was curious. The majority was quite well-educated and just seeking to make extra bucks for either continuing education or family support and there was nothing in their "profession" at the time which included anything illegal whether that be prostitution or anything related to drugs or other criminal activities. I doubt much has changed since then. Cheers!

Pia: Me too when I was trying out a mojito recipe - I don't drink these days and that sipping was a killer and I STILL didn't make one that tasted out of this world. Can you get over here for the get-together on the 20th?

Hi there you old tart 🙂 I miss you.
Probably not 🙁 but I'm thinking of posting our "knickers off" margarita recipe so that can help change everyone's perspective of the "club" - let me know if you want it...........it's fab-u-lous (tu)

You're so right - I have no idea of what I what I am talking about...

I suggest you read page 19 of the latest STJ Tradewinds (5/11/08 edition) - TW is the only USVI paper (and I read them all, along with the forums - and have for years) that is willing to illuminate these issues. Best of luck to you - rum punch works well to get the sand out of the mouth after extraction of the head from the ground.

...or perhaps you should ask Jamie's Mom - or the Westin visitor who's head got in the way of a shovel - or all of the other (growing)reports that go untouched and unsolved...

I hear Aruba is nice this time of year!

Question, do you gals get on the phone and say..."Hey, get on the message board"? Your posts are so close together.

If this is rumoured, then great. If it's true, it doesn't fit into the quaintness of STJ. It's a turnoff to alot of people, mostly women.

I certainly hope that you are not commenting on Pia. She is a trusted member of the STJ community, both on island and on-line. She contributes so much to these boards. It seems like she and STT resident (whom I always thought was a man, sorry) was trying to inject a little levity into a discussion that turned into attack on island residents.

Go for it girl where that margarita is concerned! And I miss you too! Want some bloody Allsorts? I have enough to last me for YEARS now after the last major injection.

Sorry, posters, we should keep all this inside stuff to PMs or regular emails. My humble apologies but at least we managed to temporarily segue it off the negative dynamic and, even via reading boredom, get things on track. Pia and STT Resident will now cease and desist - I speak only for myself but Pia will, I am sure, agree. Cheers!!!

blujahz,
I stand corrected..
If you read the newspapers and all the forums then you probably do know more about what goes on here than I do. I'll just go rinse the sand off my head and mix myself a rum punch and let you keep us informed on all these important matters.
Thanks for clearing all this up for us.
-Ruth

Some people sure do get worked up!

Pia, please PM me with that recipe. My wife loves margaritas and although she doesn't own any traditional knickers, I would love to pretend that she is some fresh talent flown in for the new Redneck...

Wait a second. Maybe this belongs on another forum. Lighten up.

I don't think this is the first time we've had a strip club... but there isn't much mention of that. I don't really think there is a demand for it now either, so we will see what happens.
As far as the people of STJ ignoring things, all of us that live here know that all of us have a hard time ignoring the smallest of things. I've often told people living here is a bit like being in high school forever. Just because you don't see stuff plastered all over the internet doesn't mean there is nothing going on. We're not stupid, we know tourism is pretty much our only industry and we try to protect it. I've seen all kinds of changes happen since Jamie's murder, it's just not something you would know about unless you live here. We want people to visit, we want them to be safe, and maybe that is why so many of us St. Johnian's spend our time on these forums when we don't really have to.

It really seems to me that it's almost a you against us mentality.

If there's something going on with Jaime's murder, why not post it so people who don't live there would feel more comfortable with what has happened?? Maybe you wouldn't have to defend yourselves so often in that respect.

I'm just asking, so please, no more fighting.

Well there starts the Political BS re. "Bush". I think the US people will someday thank Mr. Bush for standing his ground and taking the heat for this war. Fight it there or here. Thank God it wasn't the Liberals who made that choice. How about a Cruise ship sunk in CA Harbor? Or an Airliner blown up on take off. Terrorists would find the Islands any easy mark, I'm afraid. This was about a strip club and got all the way to Iraq. What I find most shocking about these threads is that some people expect the Islands to be immune from the Moral decay of our society in general caused directly by the liberal attitudes of the 60's and the long standing effect it has had on us. Crime, Morality, Gambling and the likes are the result of the concept of no consequences for ones actions and the lack of respect for any anything including the Law, Parents, Teachers, other people and the list goes on. It took two decades to get this screwed up and will likely take twice that time to correct. And no, I do not subscribe to thee Head in The Sand position. The Media and papers will print what suits their editorial agenda. Not the truth and the whole truth by any means but more of a position oriented spin to suit their needs. So don't harp on the good folks of STJ and STT. I'm quite certain they care a great deal about their lives, community and what affects them. Carry on you Island Folks. One can only do, what one can do. Oh, please pardon my 2 cents on the Political BS. Couldn't help myself.

i think I am going to find NYC forum and tell the residents that they need to get their heads of out of their Wall Street Journals and do something about the crime or I will stop visiting. Sounds kind of silly, huh?

If you do not like the things that happen in your vacation destination then go somewhere else. There is no rule that says that you need to vacation in the VI if you feel that the government is corrupt and the residents do not care.

I do not understand why it would be a us vs them mentality. I would never tell the people of my vacation destination that they have no idea what is going on in their world. It is rude and disrespectful. Spending a week or two on the island and reading internet forums does not make anyone an expert on island life.

I don't see how it is anyone's resposnsibility to make you feel more comfortable about coming to the island. Yes, tourism is the main industry and the people of the USVI should make people feel welcome, but they should not have to justify their personal beliefs and actions to anyone.

Back off the residents. They live and work on island every day so you can enjoy your vacation. If you feel so stringly about their attitudes, then go somewhere esle or stay home. It really is as simple as that.

Here's a new business idea that someone could setup very close to the strip club. Might even be an additional item to sell in one of the gift shops. Here's the setup.

Most strip clubs in Los Angeles are in industrial areas. Has something to do with zoning and I guess easy for guys to be anonymous. Since St John is such a small community and I'm thinking it's not like folks wouldn't recognize those going in. So certainly a lot less anonymous than those in big cities.

So I think that you could make a lot of money selling something that would give a bit of anonymity like those rubber Richard Nixon masks.
