Hi,
We will spend a day in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas when our RCCL ship docks.

Is HAVENSIGHT MALL II in the downtown area? Do you need a car to get there?
How easy is it to locate? A friend wants me to check out a store there.

What is the standard return policy for most stores?
If you purchase an item from a mall shop and later change your mind, do they process returns like they do in the states? [reverse charges on your credit card].
I know in Mexico we found out that they don't even take returns in the smaller stores.

Also, where does one find a road map. [maybe even one that lists points of interest?]

Are there car rental places that have facilities at the cruise ship piers/docks? If so, which ones?

Thank you for your assistance.

The cruise ship piers (at least the one we've been to) are not in downtown Charlotte Amalie, but about a half mile to a mile away. The Havensight mall is right at the pier, and seems to have been built specifically for the cruise traffic. Havensight is literally a few steps from the ships. Downtown is a 15-20 minute walk, although there are tons of taxis and jitney buses waiting to give you a ride for just a few bucks. As for car rental, I'm sure there are some right at the cruise ship pier, although I've never actually rented there and can't tell you which ones. There will be hoards of open-air taxis waiting to take you wherever you want to go, so renting might not be the best choice anyway.

There is a tourist information office near the pier as well, run by the local government tourist board. They have tons of maps and info. Seek that out and you'll get all the information you need. We've gotten great advice there.

Hello,

Close but not in downtown Charlotte Amalie; very short taxi ride or you can walk if you want. Not hard to locate. Which store does your friend want you to go to?

If a store allows returns (best bet is to confirm this when you purchase), it is typically in the form you paid.

If you want planning material, books, maps before your cruise you might visit www.vitraders.com and click on Planning in the navigation. Once on island the tourism booth mentioned in the prevoius post is a good option.

Yes on rental cars, Budget and Avis are in walking distance from Havensight pier.
