My wife and I will be renting a one bedroom villa on St. Thomas in the fall. One villa we are considering is called Stone Cottage, located at Dorothea on the north side of the island. We particularly like its somewhat secluded location. Does anyone have any knowledge about Stone Cottage that you could share with us? From the pictures I've seen of it, Stone Cottage looks very charming, but sometimes pictures can be misleading. Any comments would be appreciated.

Sherri, If you ever have a chance, go to Maui. You would really love it! St. Thomas is where we go when we need a nearby Maui. KK

I am from UPSTATE New York, notice the emphasis on upstate! I say this all the time and of course people still think the city! Was raised on 115 acres of land and was a true tom-boy for sure! Had to cut and chop wood for winter, road motorcycle on all of our wonderful trails and was outside more than in! I have fond memories of home, snow NOT being one I miss!!!!! Yes I know, snow can be so beautiful and that it is, but I am more than content to stick it out right where I am! Was thinkin' about going up this winter for my Mom's 75th birthday, but the thought of the cold scares the begeebers out of me! I would have to remain under the covers in bed and have family come to me to visit! Heck, I feel my skin dry out while flying up during the summer!!!!!! This tanned girl with white scaly legs, what a sight!!!!! 🙂
When I moved to STT, you would have never seen me in a dress, let alone a pair of shorts! Now, I am quite the opposite! Too funny! Went from blue jeans and boots to jean skirts and heals! OK, flip flops work too!
I have yet to go on a "real" vacation, what's that? Being around the tourists here does help me to realize that there is more to life than work, tho I am so fortunate to LOVE what I do!!!!!! Not to mention getting to meet wonderful people on a daily basis! Happy people! Looking forward to Blu's next visit as I am hoping she will let me join in on more than just a lunch together! Some down time at the beach sounds wonderful!! (Can't forget the Mohitos)! Something I very rarely do! Need to reacquaint myself with the reason for moving here!
Maui sounds nice and we have actually talked about doing just that! Jeff and I have not been able to travel together as one of us has to be here to take care of the villas. I believe we have finally decided to trust someone else with the responsibility and go.......just not sure when that will be!
We are TRYING to build our own home! Mind you we broke ground almost a yr ago and haven't gotten any further! TIME! Where does it go? It'll happen tho, hope to be in the lower level by next hurricane season! For now, we live in a what we call "our shack"! Was supposed to be our construction shack, but became our home when our land lord decided to sell his house! We love it tho! Have to figure out how to add pics to the forum, so you can see it! Maybe Blu could help me with that! 🙂
It is cute!

Wow...thanks for the personal touch Sherri. Who ever doesn't know you now! I don't think I'd change a thing.
So you don't MISS snow....heh!

I dunno KK...I pick St. Thomas over Maui! I'm being forced to go back to Maui for the 3rd time in April! Dad is bringing his 3 granddaughters there over spring break for a Graduation present. They are tho only grandchildren outta 20 something graduating on High Honors. And cuz I have been ~elected~ to plan the trip...he has to take me back so he doesn't' get lost!

Sherri,

You know you are toast on here if you upload he pic of "the shack" and it is some kind of pretty little Caribbean cottage....so better take that shot from a bad angle and please make it a cloudy day - we need to feel sorry for you and your "shack" on a tropical island overlooking the ocean- ha ha.

Funny about you being afraid of the cold - I have heard that a few times from longtime residents who rarely, if ever, come North. We have learned how to heat our homes up here, so you wouldn't have to stay undercover (smile). LOL

You and I are due for some major limin' together and it will happen soon - before year's end - even if I just do a long weekend by MYSELF 🙂

You are also welcomed to jump on this little 4 nt girl's trip to St Barths - there are three of us so far (one woman I know and the other is her friend, so I don't know that one - but she's a MAJOR travel buff (ex airline employee with full benefits) and my friend is also a travel buff and airline employee who asks me to fly for St Thomas for the night!! Can you imagine flying for one night? Sh does it - I cannot do that, it would be a tease!!

Anywho, we're targeting November for SXM/St Barths. Jeff can hold down the fort and its just a little island hop away! If not, I'll see you soon! And if you need a caretaker while you're in Maui, you have my number!! 🙂

Sherri,
I hear you on that cold thing! I am from IL. Last year it was cold for over 5 months. I would have layers of clothing on and I was still cold! Remember being so cold and shivering so hard that your back hurt.? That is my life for about 5 months a year. Call me crazy. The older I get the colder I get. I thought it was supposed to be the other way around. I keep telling my husband 17 more years until retirement and I am out of here! These winters are not for me! So enjoy yourself this winter and think of me on one of those days when you are hot.KK

Sherri, Let me know when you get closer on planning that trip to Maui. We have stayed many different places. We have a resort we like to stay in that is off the beaten path, but very nice. We live in the country. We don't like to stay in places that are crazy with people. We thrive on that R&R. Never get enough!

Sitter, I am sorry to say but Maui is my favorite. St. Thomas is so much closer and we love it! But there is just something magical about Maui.

Blu,
Thank you so much for a wonderful invite! I will ck into it more and see if it is something I can pull off! Sounds like alot of fun!
KK, my honey wants to go to Kauai instead, he's been bugging me for a while. I am very partial to STT, so not sure what I will think. Guess I will have to go and find out!!! Blu will have to suffer in the shack- can you fix the plumbing? 🙂
Blu, If I send you a pic, can you post it? I'm not good with that kinda thing!
