My wife and I will be renting a one bedroom villa on St. Thomas in the fall. One villa we are considering is called Stone Cottage, located at Dorothea on the north side of the island. We particularly like its somewhat secluded location. Does anyone have any knowledge about Stone Cottage that you could share with us? From the pictures I've seen of it, Stone Cottage looks very charming, but sometimes pictures can be misleading. Any comments would be appreciated.

Very nice, small cottage in a gated estate. It sits below/aside a luxury villa, which is a sister property, Rockworks.

Stone cottage has a plunge pool, dipping pool or cocktail pool....whatever you want to call it. The location is very quiet and has a great view. You will be pretty far away from East End and everythng else, if that's ok with you.

Look at Nancy's map for a view of the villas and their locations. You'll find Stone Cottage over on the left side at the top.

If seclusion is a priority, it is a great place. If you want to be more convenient to beaches, restaurants, etc, you might get a little tired of coming and going on this stretch.

My husband and I checked it out while we were there. Very nice -- but agree with Bluwater -- its very secluded. I think I have some print snapshops if you want me to mail them to you. Another nice place is www.harmonyestate.com.

Linda, what a coincidence. I was literally just reading an email from Brian who owns/built Harmony Crest Villa in Harmony Estate. It doesn't seem the be the same Harmony you are referencing, but I can't open your link. I like Harmony's location because it is between Red Hook and Peterborg/Megan's Bay area.

Can you double check your link please. I am curious now. Thanks!

I also forgot the link to Nancy's map in my other post. Here it is: http://st-thomas.mclaughlinanderson.com/st-thomas-map.cfm

Thank you Linda and Bluwater for your comments. The fact that Stone Cottage is very secluded is very appealing to us. Are the roads from Charlotte Amalie to Stone Cottage paved or are some of the roads just dirt and gravel? Also, approximately how long does it take to drive from Charlotte Amalie to Stone Cottage? Thank you again.

Hi, not sure if you have made any plans or not, but wanted to let you know that Stone Cottage has good roads that lead to just about anywhere you want to go on the island! It is only minutes from Magens Bay and tho it is very secluded and not in the hustle bustle of things, it is very easy to get anywhere you want to go! The island is only 13 miles long and 3 miles wide so you can imagine that it doesn't take long to get to just about anywhere!
Since I am the manager of Stone Cottage and Rockworks, and just discovered this forum, if anyone has any questions, I be happy to answer them!

My husband and I are looking at renting Stone Cottage and Rockworks. We would be coming in June 2007. We would have 2 other couples joining us for 4 nights. We are looking for a private pool and upscale furnishings. Please tell me everything you can about these 2 properties. Thank you!

Dear KK,
You can go to: www.mclaughlinanderson.com for the accomodations of Stone Cottage and Rockworks as well as many other villas! You will get a great idea of whats available out there for your needs. For 3 couples you would definately need to rent both villas as Rockoworks has 2 bedrooms and Stone Cottage 1 bedroom. Tho a few guests have done this, there are larger houses available also. We have upgraded alot of things at RW'w and SC so I am proud of the property, but you have lots of options!

Sherri,
Thank you for the information. We really liked the looks of Rockworks and Stone Cottage. We would rent both for the 6 of us. We don't want to be crowded. However, McLaughlinAnderson told us we would have to sign a multi villa contract. When I read it over you would think we are bring 20 people with us. Would there be a problem if our 2 friends wanted to come up for lunch by the pool at Rockworks? We would be traveling together and wouldn't want to feel like we were breaking a rule by having them over for a drink or lunch.
We should know in the next few days what we are doing. We are waiting on the other 2 couples to check their schedules. If for some reason we are the only two who come...can you tell me how private it would be just renting Rockworks? We are very excited! We've only been to St. Thomas one other time. We feel like we know what to expect this time! Thanks for your help Sherri.

I certainly wouldn't be too concerned about the contract and you can certainly have them up to the pool or for dinner, ect. Not a problem! The biggest concern usually is that things don't get scattered between the 2 villas. There is privacy at Rockworks so that wouldn't be an issue for you either! Sure hope it works out for you! If you have any other questions feel free to ask!
