Hi,

I am new to the message board and I have some questions. I will be on the island Nov 24- Dec 1st. Unfortunately, my friend that was coming with me had to cancel so I will be taking the trip solo. I haven't been back to the islands for at least 12 years. Any suggestions about where to go for drinks etc...? Any tips would be great! Thanks and I hope to hear from someone soon!

Hi, Katy! you'll have some company if you're travelling to St. John. My wife and I will be there, as will Megan and b/f, and sumerwaters and who knows who else on this message board. I have NEVER been to St. John but am looking forward to exploring and having fun, and this forum is a cool place to find out all sorts of information. I've found that the best way to find stuff out is to start reading all the previous posts. (and you're not from St. Louis, too, are you?)

Hello Katy, I applaud you for going it alone. Still pleanty of fun.
Where will you be staying? How about hooking up with myself and Canoebase and company? I don't arrive until nov 26th-late. If you folks meet up before then - thats great-but can we say maybe Sunday or Monday eve meet up at the Beach Bar in Cruz Bay. We are open to any suggestions, anywhere is fine.

Hi! I am excited that you guys are going to be there. I would love to meet ya'll! I am staying on St John at a house on Fish Bay. When are you guys getting in? I will arrive at 3:30 on Thursday. I have been to St Thomas but never St John. I do have some friends from Little Rock- where I am- that have lived there before so they are giving me tips as well. I am so ready to be there!

I went to St. John twice by myself a bunch of years back and still can say that they were a couple of the BEST vacations I've had in my life. The first time was because a friend backed out at the last minute, and the second time was because I enjoyed it alone so much the first time, I decided to do it alone again. There are just so many very friendly people there spending time in paradise that you can't help but meet people and have fun. Enjoy it... know you will!

Ironically enough, I am different than "crickett". I have been going to St. John for years both alone and with others, but either way, it is always fun. No need to be intimidated at all. I stay at either Gallows or Lavender Hill in Cruz Bay so that I feel safe walking home. Here are the places I frequent: any of the beaches, Low Key Diving, Beach Bar, Woody's(always great to listen to music and meet others traveling alone) shop at Mongoose, and Cruz Bay. I will be in St. John with my college roommate from Nov. 19-Nov.18. We will be 2 blondes, both 43, drinking Margaritas. I am from New Hampshire and she is from Iowa. Be on the look out for us, we'd be glad to have you join us on any excursion.

Megan and B/F : Nov 24 pm-Nov 28 pm?
Sumerwaters and ? : Nov 26 pm-?

Hey guys,

Getting excited about meeting everyone! I am staying at Fish bay and can't find much info on the area. Do I need to rent a car? The woman that I rented it from said yes. Any suggestions? Just trying to get my bearings on things! Did we decide who all was going to be there that week? If anyone is going to still be there on the 30th I'll be celebrating my 37 b-day!!

and a happy birthday to YOU, katy! I'm outta there early on the 30th...but we can buy u a birthday drink a day or two earlier! And I don't know where Fish Bay is, but to do almost anything on STJ, and not be tied down to a taxi, you'll need to rent a jeep. And I'm Gary, looking forward to meeting everyone in 3 weeks!

We are going to celebrate my November Birthday too...I'll just postpone mine and celebrate with you.
Fish Bay is on the South Side of the island. Take the road south out of Cruz Bay and go south, (or right if you are standing on the Ferry dock). Go past the westin, they next bay is chocolate then Rendezvous Bay, Fish Bay is just past these...I think maybe the road ends in fish bay. Get a jeep, not the greatest road..also would be a bummer if you had to call a taxi for everything...this way you can do what you want, when you want. Sounds good to me.
You guys can email me at [email protected]

These are the real thing kayaks..ocean kayak. It is not a hard paddle..we can eat lunch ona nearby key and snorkel there.. it is a nice day trip .. let us know if you are interested in doing this one day trip as a group while we are all there; cheap and fun.
OMG I am getting psyched!!!!!!

two b-days to celebrate! Yea! Gary- thanks for the note...I went ahead and rented a Jeep although Nancy, who rents the villa I rented, said to rent from a lady on StJ not through Hertz whom I can rent cheaper I think because I am a member of AAA?? Any advice? It may just be easier to rent from her friend since I am getting in on Thanksgiving Day. ( hope I get use to the left side!!) Work is really getting slow now and I am so ready to be outta here! Wish I could afford to stay through the weekend the next week instead of leaving on a Thurs. See ya'll soon!

If you guys/girls are into hiking...I hear that the "Reef Bay Trail" is cool...starts at the Park Visitor Center, bus to the trailhead, hike down a mountain...boat back to the visitor center. Reservations are needed, I signed up for Monday, Nov 28...starts at 9:30 am. If you want to make reservations, call the park. The trip is lead by a park ranger. cost is $22 per person.

My husband and I will be there Turkey day - Dec. 3rd. From Philly. Staying in Chocolate Hole (35,no kids). We've been going there for years! You'll love it...Very low key.
Kayaking sounds great.
Let's meet up at Sunset Bar (coming in on the ferry, the bar is to your right, on the beach in Cruz Bay). What day/night works best for everyone?
Not very message board savvy, so forgive me if I'm not replying to the right post...

Hi Katy,

I think you're staying at the same place we did almost 2 years ago in Fishbay. A woman named Nancy managed the place and she hooked us up with a local woman named Karen for the Jeep rental.

Karen is the greatest! She runs Lionel Jeep rental and her # is 340-693-8764. We've rented from her 4 times since. Tell her Matt Reilly said hello!

Have fun!

Matt
