We are headed to St John in late July for the first time and would like a preview of the available restaurants. Can anyone recommend a complete restaurant guide?

JJ's Texas Coast has an excellent breakfast. The sausage is great and the creamed chipped beef on biscuits is out of this world!

I think the most complete list I've seen is on the Frommers site.

http://www.frommers.com/destinations/stjohnusvi/96_inddin.html

It;s not complete, but pretty close. We recently ate at the following...

Paradiso, Mongoose Junction, Cruz Bay - Very good italian cuisine in a nice atmosphere. Moderately expensive.

Morgan's Mango, next to Mongoose Junction, Cruz Bay - Very good mixed cuisine. They feature dishes from a variety of cuisines. Moderately expensive.

Margarita Phil''s, near Mongoose Junction, Cruz Bay - Excellent mexican cuisine. The tamales were some of the best I've hda outside of Mexico and the special Alaskan King Crab tacos were unbelievable. Moderately priced

Cafe Roma - Very good Italian cuisine. Service was a bit lacking but the food made up for it. Moderately priced, good value.

Uncle Joe's BBQ, Cruz Bay - Very good chicken and ribs. Inexpensive and a good value.

Beach Bar - Our teens had a great burger and fries one evening and it was reasonable priced.

Skinny Legs, Coral Bay. Great burgers and reasonably priced.

Fozy's Taboo, Jost Van Dyck, BVI - Great lunch in a great setting.

Deli Grotto, Mongoose Junction, Cruz Bay - Great deli sandwiches and reasonable priced.

I think that's it.

Here are a couple of sites I've bookmarked for our upcoming trip:

http://www.caribbeanedge.com/st_john/restaurants/

http://www.usvi.net/rest/st._john.html

From all the research I've done via reading various travel forums, the top picks for our 1st St. John visit are:
Cruz Bay area: Rhumb Lines, Morgan's Mango, and The Lime Inn
Coral Bay area: Sweet Plantains

We have four in our family, so these restaurants seemed like ones everyone would like (we didn't consider the more highly priced restaurants).

For the Coral Bay area, Skinny Legs is a must. Great burgers, laid back atmosphere, and reasonable prices. Aqua Bistro on the Salt Pond Road is a more upscale type restuarant, e.g. more expensive, but very good. BBQ on Sat is reasonably priced and quite good. Don't forget Miss Lucy's also on the Salt Pond Road.
