This is not a quiz. i don't know the answers, but would like to. When was the road to STJ's East End completed? How about Centerline and the north shore road? The Salt Pond road? When did the island get electricity?

I think Mooie's was the first bar on STJ. What was the first place in Coral Bay? I remember when Skinny's was named Redbeards. Was that the original name of the place?

When was the building on the ferry dock constructed?

When did The Kite burn?

Was the Maho Camps area undeveloped before Stanley built on it?

What did Hamilton and Frett do before Maho?

And on STT, when was the new terminal built at the airport?

Ron,
This is so interesting...being a history buff. I wish we had time to spend with you when we're down. I have a similiar history on Cuba with great-greats.....it's facinating about the islands.

I was just reading some of the articles on the STJ Historical Society site:

http://www.stjohnhistoricalsociety.org/Articles.htm

I've looked at that site before and especially enjoyed the photos, but guess i never took time to read the articles. Some very interesting material. The older people on STJ grew up in a very different world than the one that exists today.

Ugh,
I look at the way women dressed back then, in layers and layers.
The boats are beautiful.

Wall Street owned by Fred Smith

However, do not remember that the Kite had a fire? I thought there was another reason for its closing.

A little Inner Visions history too.
Prophecy became Inner Visions and before Prophecy the band went by Explosions.

The best thing about the photos is that there are no cars.
Would be nice to have a time machine sometimes.

Wall Street! What a remarkable name for the place. Was it a joke or something more complex than that? When would that have been the name?

I'd learned on some forum that The Kite burned. Maybe from Ronnie? Victor himself actually popped up on this forum some months ago. I was asking himn if he had any photos of the place because I didn't and wondered if my memory was at all accurate. He mentioned that he'd lst his photos in the fire. I seem to think that there was also some stuff about the family selling the property. The Peter Bay of Victor's day was certainly a different place than the Peter Bay of today.

Any idea when the Inner Visions name changes occurred. It's an interesting evolution: Explosions-->Prophecy--->Inner Visions.
We first saw them at Fred's in probably '86. I'm not sure that I knew their name at that time. A couple of years lapsed before we returned again and we recognized the band and they were definitely IV by that time. Maybe they were the first time, too. I'm not certain.

Do not know the reason for the name Wall Street. Fred Smith was a taxi driver during that time and the year was 1970. I always liked the name Pink Flamingo. It was just up the street. Pink Flamingo and Sputnick rocked especially during Labor Day.

Kite, remember family selling property. I thought maybe that was the reason for the closing. Absolutely Lex! Peter Bay was certainly a different place than today. The statement can be said, for most of St. John. I have a lot of great memories of Victor's "Kite", June's "The Out", Hilltop, Daniels, The Inn, pool hall and always a beach party or fish fry at pond mouth. And Papa Penn would be at ALL dancing with the beer bottle on top of his head. This was the local entertainment before Cable TV or videos on island.

The band was know as Explosions in 1975 maybe a few years before. Not sure when the name changed beyond that date. I believe the name changed as various members left and new ones came on. Greg Pickering (Grasshopper) is the only one from the beginning still with the band.

This Question is for Ron

Hi Ron

I was wondering what was going on with Ms. Gertrude house the one located in Estate Thomas right next to the hospital. I use to admire that house as a kid , it was truly one of the most beautiful homes on St Thomas. I am just puzzle to see how it has falling to disrepair. Ms. Gertrude really use to take pride in the house.

Are you able to put any dates on the finishing of the different roads on STJ: East End, North shore, Salt Pond, Centerline?
