If we take the passenger ferry from STT to STJ for a day, will be be able to get around ok without a car? Can we take a Safari taxi or regular taxi to a beach? Which one? and Do they have concessions for food/drink/snorkel equipment? I've never been to the US Virgin Islelands before and I'm trying to figure out how things work. Thanks a bunch for any help!

They only have "regular" taxi's on STJ that go to all of the north shore beaches (Trunk, Cinnamon, Hawksnest etc) no $1.00 safari taxi's. There is the bus that is $1.00 and it will take you to the other side of STJ and to Saltpond to snorkel (good snorkeling there but a long walk to the beach that is rocky) but it travels via Centerline Road thus avoiding all the popular beaches. The beaches that have food/showers/snorkel rental are Trunk and Cinnamon.

Your best bet would be Trunk Bay. They have the most facilities of any beach and taxis are usually around to take you back to Cruz Bay. There is a $4 charge for the beach.

Thanks for the advice. I think that's what we'll do is just taxi to trunk bay and snorkel. Any favorite places to eat in Cruz Bay before we head back to STT?

Hello CajunLady,

At the top of this page, in the blue bar, you will see the island names. Click on St. John and then select Beaches. That beach guide includes comments on whether taxis are readily available, food available etc.

Enjoy!!
