Hubbie and I were just talking about our next trip back to STJ in late November and realized that after 5 trips we have yet to get a Christmas ornament to represent our trips there. Any suggestions (Mongoose Junction, wherever) where we can get Christmas ornaments on STJ? We are NOT shoppers but a single store or two suggestion would be appreciated. Secondly, anyone with an update on Fred's in Cruz Bay? We heard that it may be closing due to Fred's health. Thanks all as always!

If you have the opportunity to get up to Paradise Point on STT, The Pirate's Chest carries a great selection of islandy X-mas ornaments.

I knew I'd hear from you Marty! We'll try but we hate leaving STJ until the last minute before heading for the ferry and airport. Maybe someday...

Everyting has a great array of ornaments. The Pink Papaya has them too. Captain's Corner has the usual ball kind that has the name of the VI on them. You can also find them in Mongoose Junction at a couple of shops.

Hi there 🙂

Pink Papaya always has some beautiful ones - if you only want to hit one store - that would be my choice 🙂

Talk to you soon

Pia's right. Pink Papaya is the place to go. It's right by the Lime Inn.

Jeez, if Fred's were to shut down it would leave a hole in my heart. I have such sweet memories of going there on Wednesdays to hear Inner Visions. It was always a little strange to walk by there in the daylight and see what it looked like when the magic was turned down. Hard to believe that it was the same place. A lot has changed on STJ since we first went there and I don't find much of the changes to be improvements. Fred's would be one more wonderful thing that I'd miss a lot.

We get an ornament every year from Mongoose Junction. There's a small store right next to Bamboula that carries them. I don't remember the name. We've also bought from Everyting. That's a great store.
Have a great time shopping!

Hi Pia, hope the trip home went well! Hopefully we can all hook up and go dancing at Fred's if he's still in business. No one else has commented on this yet except Lex so I hope that's a good sign that he'll be open and Inner Visions will be playing!

Hi Karrieb

Sorry I can't help you with Fred's but I'm on the "look out" for any info as I know you are interested in going. My trip "home" went great, thanks for asking, and I'll be in touch re my offer to you but maybe by the time you are here the "ban" will be lifted even further.

Cool, thanks! I'll be happy if they just say we can take TWO, not one, one quart bag filled with our liquids. Maybe 3 when I get ready to go to Cambodia but now I'm getting greedy!

Captain's Corner (next to Texas Coast Cafe) has more than the ball ornaments. They have straw (abaca) angels with shells as wings with St John written on them and other shell ornaments inscribed with St John. They may have others, but those are the ones I remember.

So no one else has heard anything about Fred's possibly closing?

I got the most beautiful handpainted ornament at Southern Exposure. (though I've seen this artist's ornaments at several other places, as well as the airport, and I believe she has a place on STT on Subbase, suite 110)). But I did see some of her ornaments on STJ as well.

They are made by Diane Artware www.dianartware.com

I bought the red hibiscus ornament, because that one reminded me of Point Pleasant, where we stayed. 🙂 I love supporting artists, and these ornaments were so cool, really neat and funky, not "stock" ornaments made in some factory somewhere, kwim?

I'm sure you'll find something great. Enjoy!

Hey Karrieb

Here is a link to the ornaments that I always buy at Christmas from Pink Papaya (but they do sell them at other stores as well) I just love them and they are signed and dated as well, so each year you are here (you know you will be) you can add to your collection.
