Beach party! Thought I'd let you all know that some of the locals have come together to throw a beach party every other Sunday out at Hansen Bay Campground. This is where Vie is at...just past her "Snack Shack" on the beach. The next one will be this upcoming Sunday, November 29th. There is music, food, drinks, a lots of people enjoying the water and each other.

I was lucky enough to make it out for the last one and I don't think I will miss another (I don't think my 8 year old son would let me 😉 ! I felt so much love...just like Love City should be. There were tourists, locals, transplants, babies, elderly and everything in between. Last time they had a live band, very cool. The food served is some of the local favorites, bbq chicken, whelks, conch, fish, and some people were lucky enough to snatch up the fresh lobster. The food was delicious! We were out there from about 1pm until 5pm, not sure what time things start, or how long the last, but I would say you should try and make it out if you are here on one of their "on" Sundays. It is a great time and a fantastic way to hang with some of us locals and see how we like to lime away a Sunday afternoon. Meet cool people, make new friends, fill your bellies, play in the sea, drink, dance.... Hope to meet some of you out there!

Not sure of the specific start/stop time, but I was at the last one from 1pm until 5pm and things were happening before I got there and after I left. I will try to get some more detail tomorrow.

Notahippie...this is soooo up your alley!

Hi Julie, We are looking forward to our visit to the island again in February. This time it is for 10 days, we will be there 2 full weekends, so hopefully we can catch this party. I met you in Oct. 08' ; the day that hurricane Omar hit us, at the beach bar. I was supposed to meet up with TN Orange and Maui Mai tai but the rains spoiled it for me. I hope to see you again during our trip. Can't wait!

Hello there Bonnie! Yes, I remember. I've only met a few people from the forums over the years. Hope to see you again in Feb!

Was at the party yesterday and had another great time. There was a live band AND a DJ this time, so the music was always going. We got out there around 12:30, and that was a little too early. Not for me! But the music hadn't started and the food wasn't quite ready. By 1:30 things were running and by 3pm a lot of people were showing up. We left at 5 since it was a school night and we had my son and nephew with us. Things were not even slowing down by 5pm. I asked a couple of people, and I guess these parties can go on quite awhile.

I hope some of you can make it out, it really is a lot of fun!

Ok, little update! There will NOT be a party the next time, December 27th. Someone has rented out the entire beach for Christmas time. I will let you know if they change their schedule, but for now, the next party will be January 10th. Bummer!!!! I asked one of the people who helps put this on to let me know if they decide to bump the next one up or do it more often. If you are here, you should come! It's a lot of fun!

I know, right! This is Hansen Bay Campgrounds...privately owned...so that can explain a lot. I think I know where to hold my belated wedding reception now 😀 Actually, they used to have parties similar to this one on a different beach each Sunday for the locals, but between DPNR and the National Park Service, they were essentially shut down. I'm just glad that we now have a spot to gather, as a community, and enjoy our home. I am even more happy that the people who are putting on this party wanted me to invite all of you to join us. love, respect, one
