So am I crazy to take the car barge from STT on the 4th of July? Will STT car rentals be in short supply? Will traffic be bad on both ends?

Carnival is July 5th this year so the 4th should not be an issue

Interesting, one of the villa owners is stating the contrary.

Carnival is always on 7/4 except when it falls on a Sunday.

Cars on STT will only be slightly affected by the STJ Carnival - parade and fireworks on 7/5 this year as a couple of locals already explained -- the villa owner probably lives in the States somewhere - traffic will be very light on the STT side and probably STJ too - no foreseeable barge problems either it is almost 'just another Sunday in the VI'

i think that a lot of the vendors, media and troupes will be using the barges. it's not just the parade you have to think about, it's the village and all the supplies and people that want to get over from st. thomas as well as any peripheral activities like jams and dances that may be taking place during the season.

i'm sure you'll make it over and back just fine, but you will need to be more patient and plan more time for getting to and fro'.

In lieu of Carnival falling on 5 July, I am assuming there will be no fireworks display on 4 July? Anyone know if the beach jam has been switched to 4 July?

Where is the Carnival and the beach jam? My b/day is 4th of July and we're going to be in StT for the week. Would love to enjoy the festivals!

The VINow Calendar for July has all the information you need about Carnival itself. I am still awaiting a local to answer my question about the date/location of the beach jam...suspect it is on the 4th on Gibney Beach...
