Andrew Douglas is my personal favorite, as he has a great voice. He plays at various places around the island, solo. Are you looking to hear something like that, or do you want to hear something like the Rising Stars, which is a huge steel pan band?

Who is the guy who plays at Indigo? Is that Andrew Douglas?

I remember when there used to be steel pan bands welcoming visitors at the airport. I wish they would bring that back.

Yes, Marty, Andy is great. I saw/heard him play on one of my MANY visits to Indigo last summer. People were getting up and dancing - so nice!

Hello hotrod,

Various restaurants/bars have entertainment on different nights of the week, some do steel pan - usually a soloist.

You might try:

Agave Terrace, they have steel pan on Tues and Thurs from around 6:30-10pm. Its a restaurant at Point Pleasant.

At Bolongo Bay at the Beach House Restaurant they used to have one on Thursday and Saturday from 7-10pm, you'd need to double check. And they do a good Caribbean show with mocko jumbies, fire eaters ect. on Wednesdays from 8-10pm - they have music for it also. That is at their 2nd restaurant Iggies.

I called Secret Harbor's Blue Moon Cafe and Andrew Douglas (that Marty and Bluwater mentioned earlier) plays there on Fridays. He also plays at Bonnie's by the Sea which is by Cowpet Beach, at Elysian Resort on either Tues or Wednesdays - I called but didn't get a definite answer. And Bluwater mentioned Indigo (a restaurant at Magens Point), I tried them but they said they don't have any steel pan lined up right now.

The Palms at Emerald Beach does a Caribbean show on Fridays with a West Indian Buffet and steel panist, 6pm.

Mafolie Hotel & Restaurant usually has a steel pan player - I called them but they said they didn't have one right now and weren't sure if they would in late December.

If you are interested in any of these mentioned, you may want to call closer to your trip dates, dates/times may change between now and then.

For those that will be here in mid-December, December 17th to be exact you can catch the Rising Star Steel Band. Here is the Information: St. Thomas' Rising Stars Youth Steel Orchestra will perform their annual Christmas concert at 7:00pm on December 17th at Reichhold Center of the Arts. They will perform classical selections and traditional Christmas music that has been arranged by Rising Stars instructors and arrangers. Guest performances typically include School Choirs from local elementary schools. Come out and enjoy great music, while supporting a wonderful youth organization – the Rising Stars Youth Steel Orchestra! This year the concert is free in celebration of the Rising Stars 25th anniversary. Tickets are required and can be picked up at the Reichhold Center box office.

Hi Everyone,
Andrew Douglas is also Weddings the Island Way's steel pan player of choice! So I get the opportunity to work with him and he is always smiles!

Here's what I know!

Mondays- Indigo's 6pm to 9pm
Wednesdays- Elysian Hotel- Bonnie's By The Sea 6:30- 9:30pm
Fridays- Blue Moon Cafe' 7pm to10pm
Sundays- Elysian Hotel- Bonnie's By the Sea 5:30-8:30pm

When you get on Island, get an Island Trader (free)- Cones out on Thursdays and they have a section called Live Action and Night Life!
Enjoy! 🙂

I know the Rising Stars also play in front of the Post Office on Main Street on Crhristmas Eve. They may play a few days after as well, I hope!
