*We have been travelling the islands for many years. In the 60's and 70's the major hotels were filled with "Island Entertainment". We fell in love with the sound of 'Steel Bands'. Unfortunately, unless we go to Trinidad, the ability to hear this music live gets more difficult for us every year.
Has anyone found a venue for good steel drum bands performing in St. Thomas? If so where did you hear them. How large was the group? Did they travel around? Anything you can tell us would be greatly appreciated.
If you love the sound as we do, we would be willing to go just about anywhere to hear that sound as long as it is "well done".
Hello,
The steel bands venues that I know of that are coming up are: a pre-thanksgiving pan show by the Pan Dragons on St. John - youth group but very good. St. Croix Carnival in Dec-Jan will have steel pan reviews, St. Thoms Carnival in April will also have pan reviews... Christmas concerts by the University steel orchastra and also christmas shows at Reichold are normal - both on St. Thomas.

Dick: You may have more luck in hearing a single pan player- Andrew is from Trinidad and is usually around, also several others. Check the Island Trader or Friday Weekend section of the Daily News.
