Does anyone know what is going on with that hotel down by Coki Point? We are staying at the Point Pleasant and would love to see that place refurbished. It is a ruin now and it is such a shame.

It was purchased by the Wyndham and they are going to make it timeshares. I believe they have begun refurbishing.

It was purchased almost 2 years ago from a local person (I have won't give you his name) who bought it from the Mexicans who got into a battle with the government. They tried to reopen last prime season. They don't look like they will make it for this prime season.

It will be timeshares but now the market for new timeshares is pretty weak so who knows when it will be ready. It does not have a great beach which has always smelled of sea weed. It is not in the best of areas. But the pool and bar are pretty good. By the way parts of this place were seen in the movie Weekend at Berines 2.

So it goes!!!

Thanks Bill.

Do you know if the appearances is improving at least? I looked a bit scary down there from Point Pleasant.

not a lot has been done. I walked around about three months ago and there was nothing going on. I walk around again when I get back on island. I'm stuck in San Juan trying to get back. to my house and property there.

It would be a nice addition to Smith Bay to get it up and running.

Much of what HASN'T been going on has to do with politics. Apparently Wyndham was going through the permitting process for rebuilding/renovation and the whole thing got messed up when it was discovered that someone responsible for submitting the reams of necessary paperwork miscounted the units. I know, it sounds such a simple problem but the island does work in ways that do seem most mysterious to not only outsiders but residents too!

I don't think it's "scary" to look at - it's just a big property which has remained empty for rather a long time but basic maintenance is still being done and hopefully it will eventually be refurbished and re-opened. Given the current economic climate it could be later rather than sooner but I remain optimistic that eventually god things will happen where it's concerned. Cheers!

I agree. It has a lot to do with the fact that it has sat for sometime. If they are having problems with permitting it may go back to the problems that the Mexican company had with the government. Remember that the government told them they could not close and there was the roblem of the union. So the Mexican's said stuff it and they closed.!

I just want then to get started.

Me too! Our condo is at Pineapple Village which is right in the middle of the closed hotel. They keep a staff of security guards and maintenance workers employed, but I wish that things would start to pick up. In it's hayday it was one of the hottest hotels, I'm not sure what channel shows the "Wedding Story's" show, but a few months ago they featured a beautiful beach wedding on the property when it was open.
