Has anyone dealt with State Farm over liability insurance for coverage in St.Thomas Virgin Islands if you are a member of State Farm?I am leaving in 3 days and concerned about insurance? Thanks
I contacted my agent before I went. I have $1000 deductible on my own policy and Dependable with their insurance was $1000 deductible. My agent said I was covered and I didn't need their coverage. Best thing to do is call today to make sure. Also contact the rental agent to see what they cover on insurance they sell.

I called them specifically and asked about the US Virgin Islands. The first rep I talked to was clueless and I had to ask for a supervisor. The answer I got was that on MY policy I am covered in the US Virgin Islands, Guam, PR and Washington, DC.
The conversation with the original rep was surreal with her asserting that the coverage was only for the 50 US States. "How about the District of Columbia?" "Uh, I don't know." Seriously, this is a question they don't have to cover very often and I'm otherwise happy with State Farm.
Cheers, RickG
Luckily, I have a great agent, but for some reason I always call him before I go just to make sure nothing has changed.
I am with State Farm and I am covered just as I am in the states.
I just got off the phone with state farm, they made calls to verufy and said I was definately not covered?
Suggestions:
1. Read your policy......mine states (in writing) that I'm covered in a rental car in the U.S. and it's Territories. Better to have it in writing than to tell your agent after the accident that "so and so" told me on the phone....only to be told at this late date that whoever it was that told you that was wrong....and you foot the bill. I use this for my liability coverage.
2. If you have an American Express Card...call and activate their collision damage insurance policy. It's $19.95 for up to 42 days (that's a one time fee, not per day)...and it's primary collision damage insurance (no deductible) so you do not need to go to your own company, at all. At $19.95 I use this to cover my collision damage (since I have a $500. deductible on my personal policy).
3. Check out what liability insurance your rental car company offers as part of the rental fee.
4. Or if you're really concerned buy the rental company's coverage...it's expensive...but at least you'll have peace of mind.
Most of all enjoy your trip!

" I just got off the phone with state farm, they made calls to verufy and said I was definately not covered?"
Not for nothin' here, but I would call State Farm back myself and ask to speak directly to an underwriter so that I could explain my own question and hear the answer. Unless this is a California or state-specific issue, you should be covered. If your agent or agent's staff did not understand the question initially, perhaps they are explaining it incorrectly to the folks they are calling for further info. Maybe it will turn out that you are not covered but at least you will know that you got a definitive answer because you are hearing it directly from an underwriter.
Good luck!
This is bugging me as it comes up so many times that State Farm gives out the wrong info. I just called our agent and he gave me the phone number for the State Farm regional service center in your area: 707-588-6011; ask for auto insurance underwriters.
Good luck!
Thanks again, my State Farm agent told me No and I called that number you gave me. They said State Farm does coverthe car rental and they will call my agent in the morning to straighten out. Thanks
