Anyone familiar with this villa? We're having a hard time deciding on a place to stay! Everything about this place sounds good, but we're concerned about the location being TOO isolated. It's on the east side of St John, close to Coral Bay. How far are we going to have to go for groceries and restaurants? Are the beaches nice on this side of the island? Thank you.

Hello Bruce,

Coral Bay has a gas station, small convience stores, a few restaurants and bars, video store, a few souvenir shops, water-sports booth... So you will have some conviniences closeby.

To get to Cruz Bay to access more large scale shopping it will be about a 30-35 minute drive depending on where exactly you are located.

Salt Pond Bay and Lameshur are two beaches on that end that are nice.

I don't know where you decided to stay, but we just got back (last week) from 10 days at Starlit. There were 3 couples in all. It was big enough so that we all had space and privacy. It's all by itself near Coral Bay, which has a grocery store, restaurants, shopping, and excellent beaches at Salt Pond, Lameshure, Haulover and Vi's Beach. It's onle a 20-minute drive to Cruz Bay (and less to the north shore beaches). The villa is huge and private, with it's own pool, decks, new furnishings. My first criteria is - is it clean? Starlit was - more than clean. It's a beautiful, quiet, peaceful place that will tide me over a cold Michigan winter!

Not knowing you at all, it's hard to say how it would seem to you. Some folks don't like STJ at all because there's nothing to do. Other people are distressed by how developed Coral Bay is getting. If you like to be in the middle of everything, Coral Bay will seem very remote. We're very happy over there and don't have much to do with Cruz Bay. You'll definitely be doing a good bit of driving.

There is lots of construction going on all over St, ohn. People are building new villas and I heard that there are retirees moving in as well. One reason we chose Starlit Escape was because of its remoteness. There was absolutely no noise. The drive to Cuz Bay wasn't bad. We drove in three times for dinner and a couple of times during the week for shopping. It took about 20 minutes. I will be writing a trip report. Starlit'sweb site is www.starlitescape.com.

More to come...
