OK, so we think we've narrowed it down between Star Villa and Mar de Amores (from Caribbean Villas). Anybody have any insight into these two places? On the Web site description for Mar de Amores, it describes the location as: "the jewel at the end of the silver chain - the last house on the paved road that winds its way up the lush hill that overlooks Chocolate Hole. At an elevation of about 700 feet the road ends and a paved driveway leads you into a private setting, you've arrived at Mar De Amores." Does this sound like one of those infamous St. John roads we should be concerned about? Any advice, personal experiences, etc. appreciated!

Happy New Year, everyone!

ny mom,

i believe MdA is at the end of Rockridge rd. while we haven't stayed at MdA, we have stayed at temptress and treasure ridge which are just before below here. location is really convenient easy drive to and from cruz bay. first 2 thirds up is a piece of cake. then you have a very steep hairpin curve to the left and then another to the right. mostly one lane in that area but road is concrete with lots of ruts to provide traction when wet.

while the wives probably didn't enjoy the drives, really not bad. our 1st trip was in a camry which handle wihtout problems. the next tript we had a jeep liberty (not because of the rd to villa) and that made drive much earier. the worse part of the location is coming down and having to make a right turn on south shore rd at the top of the hill south of the westin; you can't see oncoming traffic in either direction. views are breathtaking from that area but as i recall, MdA's view of the main parts of STT (for evening lights) is obstructed as will be the sunset midyear when sun is farther north.

seems i read on a post that the master may have only a tub in the bath. no big deal for most folks, but not very islandish to me.

I confirmed with Caribbean Villas, the rental agency, that MdA does not have a shower in the master bathroom. There is a shower only in the guest bathroom. And the guest bedrooms are smaller, more like for teenage family members than other couples. We're now pretty sure we're going with La Miramar.

Thanks for your help. You pointed me in key directions... I, for one, need a shower in my bathroom!
