Hello, my boyfriend and I live on St. Croix, and are planning on going to St. Thomas or St. John for Labor Day weekend. I was wondering if anyone had any advice about a good place to stay. Since we already live down here, I don't think that we need to waste a ton of money on a really nice hotel, but I want to make sure that we don't end up in a place that is cockroach or rat infested or in a really dangerous part of the island. I realize that we are planning this pretty much at the last minute, but I hope that it isn't too late to find something decent. Thanks in advance for any ideas you might provide!

Hi Magda.

Mafolie Hotel is always a good bet with decent summer rates and fewer tourists because it's not a beachside resort. We put family up there when they visit. It's clean, on a hillside above town, with ac, but you'd need to rent a car or use taxis.

you wouldn't believe it but Gallows Point on St. John in Cruz Bay actually has a great locals discount in the summer/fall months. It is a great location too because you don't need a car to go to dinner, into town, or have a few happy hour drinks.

Magda,

In St. John you may want to check out Star Villas and Samuel's cottages. Both are walking distance to Cruz Bay and the ferry. I do not know about local discounts but it would be worth asking. Both are reasonable, clean and run by really nice people. During labor day you may want to rent a vehicle and go to Coral Bay. There will be a parade and all the bars will have music and dancing. It's always great fun in Coral Bay during Labor Day!
