We are planning a trip to St. Thomas in September and would like to get some feedback on some of the places on our short list of places to stay.

Looking at Sapphire Beach Resorts (specifically through Antilles Resorts), Carribean Style amd Elysian Beach Resort . Already have info on Secret Harbour.

We are not interested in night life to any great extent other than a good meal. Mostly like sunning and walking on the beach, maybe a swim and snorkel.

Visited St. Thomas once before for part of a day on a cruise ship shore excursion.

Would like info - such as:

How are the rooms furnished, cleanliness, etc.? A/C?

How nice are the beaches and are they directly accessible?

View from balconies/decks?

How would you rate the staff? Friendly? Helpful?

How did you book your stay?

Room type and rates?

Anythhing else you think may be interesting.

Thanks for the help.

Fred

Fred: Make sure to ask if all facilities will be open- September is the time when places paint and spiff up for the coming season. Sometimes pools, restaurants, etc.will be closed for repairs.

Thanks for the tip. We are planning September as that is our anniversary month. Could wait until October, but per the USVI website October is about twice as rainy. Any truth to that?

Hi Fred,
I will be going in Sept. this year as well, always stay at Caribbean Style/Cabrita Point. We were very upset to find they are closed in Sept. I have stayed there in March and in October and love it. The condos are very well-stocked and in a good location. Last year third week of October we had great weather, but you never know. I think it rained a lot the next week. Whatever you decide enjoy your trip.

Hey, Tosha.
Thanks for replying. Do you know why they are closing in September? Please let me know if you hear of other places with good reports. Have you picked a place yet?
Better half just said she doesn't want to take a chance on rainy weather, so we will probably stick with September.

Hi Fred,
When I called Julianna about Cabrita Point to make reservations for Labor Day weekend and for next March she emailed me back saying they were closed during September but reserved me for March. She mentioned that it was hurricane season but that lasts much longer than one month so I am not really sure why. My husband and I like to go during the spring to celebrate our anniversary and my mom and I go in the fall. Right now we have reserved a room at the Best Western Emerald beach but another friend is going with us so I am trying to find something larger (and nicer) with a kitchen. I haven't been in the rooms of the other places you are looking at but have been on the grounds of Sapphire and Elysian. The Eylsian resorts appears to be a nicer from outside but like I said I haven't been inside. Both locations I think are comparable. I like Sapphire's location a little better. Let me know if you find any good deals, we are just going for a long weekend and trying be be on a budget. The less we spend on accomodations=the more we spend on jewelry!!!

Secret Harbor may have just what you are looking for. they are running specials for the fall like 1/2 price rooms. I will be there in 4 days.

We stayed, back in Feb. (the wife and I) at Bolongo Bay Beach Club at Bolongo Bay.

We loved it. Very nice out-of-the-way place. Very laid-back, except for Wedsnday night for their Carribean Night. A can't miss event.

The rooms were furnished nicely. Very clean, and the A/C worked great.

The beach is alittle rocky, but nice. Very quite. The beach is only a few steps away from your room.

Great view from the room. And I was at ground level. Their is only 2 floors on one building, and 3 on the other.

The staff was wonderful. Very friendly and helpful. If you drink, you got to hangout at the Beach House Restaurant there. Harry the bartender is awesome. Makes the best drinks, and will keep you entertaned as well. LOL

Their website is www.bolongobaybeachclub.com

We plan on coming back to STT in Feb. again, and Bolongo Bay is the only place I will stay.

Tosha,
Thanks, again. Maybe Julianna just wants to go on vacation in September.
Maybe we'll check out Secret Harbour as jlbear71 suggested.
Will try to find a site for Elysian and check it out.
Let me know if you find something instead of Emerald Beach.

jlbear71,
Thanks for the info. We'll check out theri website. To paraphrase Tosha - the less we spend on accomodations, the more we can spend on food/drink/entertainment. Although my better half would agree with the jewelry thing.

Fred,
Just wanted to let you know that you may want to check Travelocity and Expedia if you haven't already done so. We just booked a two bedroom condo at The Anchorage for around $160 total a night, the Best Western was $170 a night for 3 people on thier own 800#. Travelocity had a good rate on a 1 bedroom an the Antilles Resort. We have never used either, I hope we actually have a condo when we arrive!!
Enjoy your trip!

Fred:

If you want a view (with all the amenities of a condo - bedroom, living room, dining room, kitchen and wrap-around balcony) try Point Pleasant Resorts. Ask for the upper level units (preferably a top unit). The "Down Island" view is spectacular! The restaurant, Agave, is top notch and then there's "Fungi's", on the beach, for casual dining. Pineapple & Sugar beach are right in front of the property. September is low season so you'll get a good rate. Call (340) 775-7200. It's run by Antilles Resorts, too.

Regards,

F.I.

Tosha,
Schultz gave us a great recommendation on Secret Harbour and from the website it looks good. They have a 50% off offer in the "Entertainmant Booklet" (you can find it online).
We are still debating St. Thomas or St. John. Considering just biting the bullet and going to Caneel Bay. My wife has always wanted to stay there, so we may do that at least for a few days.

Fred, we just returned from St. Thomas where we stayed seven nights at the Point Pleasant Resort. Thru Hotelsonline.com we booked one of their senior suites for $123.00 per night with a view that I cannot imagine how it could have been any better.
room number was D16. We had a kingsize bed, kitchen awesome balcony and view, we like you were not there for any night life, we rented a car on St. Thomas, saw all the sights there, and island hopped To St. Johns, Tortola where we rented a car on both of these islands, also went to Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke. The first day we grocery shopped, stocked our fridge and usually cooked our evening meal and dined on our balcony because the view was so beautiful. The only complaint I had with the hotel was the laundry was inop the day we wanted to do our laundry. Anyway, this was my first trip to the islands and will not be my last, and I will definitely highly consider Point Pleasant on my next visit.

Fred,
We will also be in St. Thomas and St. John in September. Where did you decide to stay? We are considering Estate Lindholm in St. John. We might also stay at Secret Harbour in ST. Thomas a couple nights. I am curious if you were able to find this "entertainment booklet" online.

My boyfriend and I just booked a vacation to St. Thomas for Labor Weekend. After reading some of the responses I had a few questions that someone might be able to help me out on (neither one of us have been to St. Thomas) this is my birthday trip.

I now realize that we have decided to go in the off season and that worries me, are there still going to be things to do i.e. water sports, etc.?

Have any of you guys heard about Marriott Frenchmans Reef and Morning Star Beach Resort? We did not do a lot of research before we booked our trip. We realize it is a little late now (bc we cannot cancel with them), but I would still like to know if anyone has heard anything about this place?

Thanks all for your time.
