Wondering if anybody ever took the Ferry from St. Thomas to Jost. I looked it up and it seems really reasonable at $50.00 PP. Looks like you can ony go on Fri, Sat and Sun. Leave STT at 8 AM and come back from Jost at 3:00 PM.

If you have taken that ferry, where do they drop you off and is it easy to get to the Baths and also get to a place on the beach.

How does this all work?

The ferry leaves on time in the morning and stops at West End Tortola for Customs. Depends on how many in your group (and how many Customs agents working) as to how long it takes to get through. Once everyone is through Customs, the ferry takes a quick 5-7 minute trip to Jost Van Dyke.

It drops you off at a small dock at what I think is Great Harbour (?). It is right between Foxy's and White Bay (where Ivan's and Soggy Dollar are located). You CAN walk to White Bay, but I wouldn't. There will be a couple taxis there to take you for $5 each.

The Baths are located on Virgin Gorda - different Island. The beaches at JVD are tremendous. Either Ivan's or Soggy Dollar/Sandcastle Hotel are great beaches. You'll have a blast there!

The ferry is scheduled to leave at 3pm. Don't be late! They waste no time loading and getting out of there. Hope this helps.

Connie:

Wrong island. The Baths is not on Jost.......Virgin Gorda.

We took the ferry to Jost.......it docks in Great Harbor. Take a taxi to White Bay. Then come back to Great Harbor and visit Foxy's.

It's a good day trip, but a better 2 day trip......we had to go through immigration in Tortola so we lost (valuable) time.

Note: The Soggy Dollar Bar is in White Bay.

Thanks guy. We took horizons last time, so i was a little mixed up.

For a group of 9 people, 4 in their early 50s and 5 in their 20s..what do you think they would like most. Going on the Ferry to Jost and to Foxy's and things or going to the Baths?

There are other things to do on Virgin Gorda than just the Baths. Little Dix Bay is rated as a top destination, as well (thought I've never been there).

From my personal experience, I'd say JVD. I'd take a taxi to Soggy Dollar area and stay there for awhile then taxi over to Foxy's around 1pm to spend a couple hours there before leaving. While beautiful, the Baths to me just don't hold the same fun as White Bay and Foxy's. But --- everyone is different.

Connie:

Agree with VI Lover.

However, have you considered over-nighting on Jost? That is if you really want to experience Foxy's.

Islander.

I'd love to do that, but with 9 people I don't think it's in the budget. Husband and myself would love to do that when we come down on our own...but it's a great idea.

Ya know...Ivans is very affordable with a rate of $50-60 for a cabin a night. They have 1 or 2 double beds in each you should check it out you could put 4 of the 20 year olds in one and figure out the rest. Or there are also camp sites that I belive have tents and cots and all for $35 put the young ones in there.

Leticia.....me camping? Last time I did that was 15-20 years ago and I ended up in a hotel with about 8 girls under the age of 15.

We need just a day thing because we either have to go on the first Sunday we get there or the last 'Friday that we are there since we get in on a Saturday

I just thought it would be a good alternative and alot cheaper for everybody that's going on this trip, I'd like to get them off of STT and STJ I want them to understand that the BVI's are so close that a vacation to any VI's is a great way to get around to alot of islands.

We are really considering a week stay on JVD. Do you have any other suggestions for a successful trip?

Thanks

Jen

Jennifer:

Two nights should be enough.......unless you really like solitude.

Try the 2 nights on Jost and the remaining nights on STT and or STJ.

We went to STT this past September and had a great time - but we want to broaden our horizons so to speak.

We're just looking forward to the scenery, cold drinks and good food. Oops and lots of peace and quiet.

Do you think we would get bored after a few days??

Thanks
Jen

Jen:

That's a tough question.

It's really up to you. If you like peace and quiet, that is after visiting Foxy's......then this is your place. Jost is a beautiful island with friendly people. But remember there are only 200 permanent residents.

My suggestion for a little more variation is to visit Jost for a couple of days and then continue your vacation on Tortola with a day sail to Virgin Gorda.

Hope this helps.

If you get the cabins at Ivan's it's not really like camping. You share a community bathroom and kitchen - have an outdoor shower - and best of all the Stress Free Honor Bar!

If you need more "accomodating" accomodations there are a couple of other places that have more "hotel style" rooms on White Bay over by the Soggy Dollar.

I'll be there this weekend. Can't wait. Deserted Island feel - nightlife if you want it - great snorkling. What could be better?

By the way it will be MUCH cheaper to take a renatl boat especially with that many people, and then you get to Jost earlier and you get to leave later.
