I am going to be staying in St. Thomas the first week of March. I want to visit St. John and Jost Van Dyke. Does anyone have any suggestions for visiting JVD? transportation, where to go? I have been to St John to trunk bay. Any other thoughts or ideas? Thanks soooo much!

A great way to visit JVD is via the public ferry. Information on this ferry is located on this forum - look for the ferry link top right of the page.

The ferry gets to JVD around 10:30am and departs at 3pm. We normally start the day at Ivan's Stress Free Bar and Campground. Stay a couple hours there just relaxing. They have an honor bar, so make your own drinks, write them in the log, then settle-up when you are ready to leave.

Then - walk down the beach and take the trail over the hill to the Soggy Dollar Bar. Have a Painkiller! Relax some more, then walk down the beach and visit the other great beach bars and shops along White Bay.

Be sure to save a little time for Foxy's Bar. Grab a Taxi from Soggy Dollar Bar to Foxy's. Nice Shop. Nice Shade. Great people. Foxy features "rum drinks" so enjoy! The Ferry Dock is walking distance from there so just leave around 2:45 and you should be fine. DON'T BE LATE for the ferry. If they happen to be on time (doubtful), they will not be there long. They unload, and load, and are on their way again very quickly. They will not wait!

A JVD day is a great time. Enjoy!

Good Luck! Have Fun!

If you rent a vehicle for your stay (and this can't be more highly recommended) from anyone but Hertz (which doesn't allow their vehicles on St John) you can take it over on the car barge and explore all the beautiful beaches there. Trunk is only one of dozens!

You should absolutely go to Magens Bay (pick a day when only one or no cruise ships are visiting) while the best snorkeling beaches on STT are Sapphire, Coki and Secret Harbour. I'd definitely suggest taking a daysail as this is usually the highlight of many visitors' trips. Don't over-plan - you're here to relax and do what you want when you want. Have fun!

My husband and I will be in STT that week also and we are planning a return trip to JVD also. We use the ferry to get there unless we plan a day trip of snorkling that happens to stop there. This trip I would love to see the bubbling pools if we have time, just don't know where to find them on JVD 🙂
