I heard on the news last night and this morning that two young men from New York were attending a wedding in St Thomas. They were at the bus stop and a car drove by and shot both guys. They both died. What's going on ? We are going to St Thomas next week, and I'm geeting so nervous, I really don't want to go.
I have heard that an arrest has been made. Hopefully we will find out what really happened.
Here is the story!

Apparently the 17 year old brother was arrested this morning and charged as well.

The Source has a story in today's edition (July 3) which describes an officer's testimony (at a Saturday court hearing) regarding the alleged circumstances of the crime: http://www.onepaper.com/stthomasvi/?v=d&i=&s=News:Local&p=1105685832
The crime rate in NYC is at an all time LOW! People have a right to known what the precentage of the crime rate is as it relates to the population. And St T is off the map! People go on vacation to relax like my friends brother (Tristian) and his friend. They had no idea that they would be shot down like dogs. My only question is why?
RetiredNYPD: We ask the same question: why? Someone came forward to offer information leading to 2 arrests. At risk to life. In NYC and other large metro areas, testifiers fear the people that they finger. It is the same here.
Add to that, the few bad apples that until recently, had run unchecked in our police department. Fear. There are corrupt police everywhere too.
Under new leadership our police are struggling to solve this crime and many others that affect residents. We as a community are extremely sorry for your loss. My feeling has always been this: when we make the U.S. Virgin Islands safe for those of us who LIVE here, we will automatically make it safer for those who visit.
Retired NYPD.
I also was curious about the crime and I discovered on St Thomas in the past 10 years 2 visitors have been killed. We all agree that is 2 too many. When compared to the 51,000 population and the number of visitors there each year (probably well over 100,000 tourists each year). That would make the murder rate against tourists about 1 in 500,000. Again those were 2 lives that should not have been lost. But to call STT unsafe for tourists may be inacurate.
May the Lord be with the families of those that died and may justice prevail against those who were responsible for their deaths.
"My only question is why?"
As a retired NYPD officer, do you know the answer to why up there? Some kid just killed another in New York over an IPOD this weekend. The question why can hardly be answered for most murders. I certainly hope everything will be answered during the trial. Doubt we will hear much more until then, other than what has been released, that you can read in the article linked above.

No offense Ronnie what I'm about to write. The kid in NY was killed for not giving up his IPOD. The two men that were killed in STT, we still don't know the whys yet. That is what the NYPD officer was asking.
To RH 1958...you can't compare NY population and guests to STT population and visitors. The crime rate is LOW in NY compared to the numbers (population and visitors) that is what NYPD officer was
trying to say. STT murders are high for the numbers.
My heart goes out to all the families that lose a love one to murder.......
Hi, I just read your response and was impressed with your honesty. My son and girlfriend have chosen your island as the place that they would like to get marrried. Any suggestions as to places that are the nicest, safest and yet of coure, economical? Any all-inclusives. I would appreciate any advice.
Thank you
