We are planning to spend a few days at the end of a week long cruise that begins and ends in st. thomas. We are booked at the emerald bay (any comments on this?) just because it was convenient before boarding the boat.
But maybe st. john's is preferable. I hear that it is quieter which is fine. Any feedback would be useful. Thanks!

Choose St John!
We did something similar Christmas 2001. Our 7-night cruise was out of San Juan, and at the end of the cruise we flew to St Croix to spend a few nights.
I just returned from spending 5 nights on St John the week of Thanksgiving, and it was definitely laid back, seemed less crowded that St Thomas, and was simply incredible. I have always wanted to stay at one of the Maho properties, so we stayed at Concordia overlooking Salt Pond Bay. It is DEFINITELY quieter out there! The sound of the waves rocked us to sleep each night and awakened us each morning. Look at the "Maho Bay Campground" topic someone else posted on these boards recently. (www.maho.org)
The only other property we visited on St John was the Westin. The grounds were highly impressive. We had our engagement photos done there, and will be returning in March for our wedding.
Honestly, St John was everything we were looking for. But five nights seemed to fly by way too fast. 🙁

You really must stay on St. John. If you like peace and quiet, and don't need much of a night life, this is the island. My husband and I have been staying on St. John every year for a week. We rent a cottage in Coral Bay, (the quiet end). The cottage overlooks the east end, and the BVI's, and it's the best view around. There are dozens of beaches to visit, each unique, and most are not busy at all. Salt Pond is nice, lots of stingrays and turtles. Waterlemon is a must, great snorkeling there, lots of starfish, turtles, fish, etc. and if you are a good swimmer it's fun to swim around the island. Watch the currents. Both side of Haulover bay are good, and I could go on and on. The peace of St. John the friendly people, and the quiet pace all add up to a relaxing vacation. Eat, (Skinny's, Pickles, Shipwreck, the bigger eateries in Cruz bay,)
drink (Skinny's again, Woody's) and be merry because soon it will be time to go home.

Can you tell me more about the cottage you rent on Coral Bay? Who rents this out, approximate cost, size, etc ? Thank you.
