My husband and I are looking to get away (for 6 days) to spend quality time together (leaving the 3 kids behind). First long time ALONE in 4 years. Five years ago we had an awesome time in Grand Cayman (stayed at Holiday Inn now a Marriott) and wanted to go somewhere new that will give a similar experience. My husband can cash in points for the Marriott Frenchman's Reef and Morning Star Resort and I think that's what we are going to do, but I am worried after reading some reviews on the hotel. We will upgrade to stay in the morningstar, and we will spend more of the days outside. We plan to go to St John's 1 or 2 days, hike around Drake's Seat for 1, explore beaches 1-2 days and just lay around hotel beach 1 day. Will we be disappointed with the accomodations of the Marriott? Any recent visitors there? They will be starting renovations in Aug. Is the food that much more expensive there compared to the rest of the island?

We could also go to the Buccaneer in St. Croix...but it seems if we go there, we'll just be at St. Croix. Staying in St. Thomas, we'll be able to see St. John's as well. We are into hiking, swimming, snorkeling and just relaxing too.

Any suggestions??

The Marriott is great. Morningstar's portion is even nicer, in my opinion. What have you read that makes you want to stay elsewhere? It will be expensive, for sure. But, it is second only to Ritz Carlton and you can rent a car and go out for meals.

Thanks for the input. We actually booked the room tonight. We had a choice of waterview in Frenchman's reef or garden view morning star. We opted for morning star based on all the things I've read...I don't know why I am stressing so much over this. We aren't really going for the room anyway. I just don't want to be disappointed.

Think it's a better choice of morning star garden view over Frenchman's reef water view?

My wife and I stayed at Morningstar 2/1 -2/5. Accomodations were very nice. You did well to stay away from Frenchman's Reef. They are building condos right next door and it can get a little noisy. Never heard any construction at Morningstar though. Havana Blue is the only restraunt at the resort I would reccomend. All of the others are sub-par. That shouldn't be a problem though because there are dozens of great restraunts only a $10 (per person/each way of course) cab ride away. Our room was always clean, and we had no problems. Enjoy your trip.

you are going in the right frame mind. A room is important, but not half as much important as what you do once you get there.

Explor, enjoy, and experience and when the day is done put your head on pillow - and call it a great day

It is not the room - it is the place you are going for!
