family of four will be traveling to st. thomas for the first time dec. 11-18, staying at bluebeards castle. have read not so good reviews on it but we aren't going for the room rather the island scenery so should be fine. plus the price was too good to pass up. would like as much info on what to see and do, the weather, what to bring as far as clothing for this time of year, best place to rent a car and anything else you can think of. if there are any brochures, guide books or other written info you could suggest specifically for st. thomas this would also be greatly appreciated. i'm also interested in knowing if there are any good web sites to learn more. my husband and i are early 40's and daughter's are 15 and 19 if that helps making suggestions. all responses are much appreciated! 🙂

No need to be Anxious,
I stayed at Bluebeards in November over Thanksgiving for my first trip to St Thomas but it wasn't recently, however we dine up there every visit and I have nothing negative to say about it. All the guests still seem to be having a wonderful stay and you can’t beat the views. At the time I stayed they were just getting into time shares and I sat through and listened, won a prize and almost bought one, I’m sure you will be approached now too.

The time of year is perfect to observe the ships at night with their party lights on so bring your binoculars. It is very relaxing to watch them disembark while on the pool deck with your cocktail before dinner, something I also still enjoy when I come to The Banana Tree Grill for dinner; one of the best restaurants on the island there at Bluebeards. It is open air on a porch so you won't be cold. Only places with A/C will cause you to maybe want any type of sleeve, other than that, sleeveless is fine for a woman even in Nov. For many men pants are too hot and most men wear dress shorts and golf shirts. Even in January it's warm.

They used to run a shuttle to Megan’s Bay but I don’t know if they still do that, but do be sure to go there anyway as it’s one of the top beaches in the world. They get involved with guests activities there. I don’t ever remember little kids running around at Bluebeards, maybe because of the open decks and heights, and they don’t cater to them as some resorts do so consider that if you have little ones. It will be a nice first time introduction to the island. The unit I remember was very nice and had a kitchenette. The Hotel itself is very quaint and has many levels; it can be busy because of tours there as it’s a historic landmark and offered as an attraction from cruise ships. It’s about the views there and it has a wonderful view. St Thomas has so much to offer that you will not be there too much nor anywhere else you stay but will be out and about. I believe they have rental cars on premises at least they used to. You may not want to rent when you see the traffic that time of year, or at least not for a week. We rented than gave it back our first time because we were more comfortable taking taxi’s.
You will have a wonderful time I’m sure

Hello,

You might take a look at our weather section...

https://www.vinow.com/usvi/weather.php

The temps in December still average in the low 80s during the day and mid 70's during the night... the water temp. might be a bit chilly in the mid-high 70's... in any case no need for jackets or any winter gear. You might bring a very light sweater if you plan to eat at open air or air conditioned restaurants at night... otherwise pack tank tops and shorts for daytime and sundresses/slacks/dress shorts/jeans/shirts for night time.

Family things to do; shopping, beach days, parasailing, charter a boat, day trip to St. John, dinner.

You might visit www.vitraders.com and look under Planning in the navigation for books about the Virgin Islands to help with planning your trip.

Happy Planning.
