It is St. John. No "s".

There are daysail boats out of Frenchman's Reef Hotel/Marriot that go to Buck Island. you can check with them.
I think they have both full and half day trips.
It is quite small compared to STX's Buck Island but the snorkeling is quite good as area is a protected location.
There's a wreck there and fish are all around.

I believe Aqua Action (secret harbor) ran a dive trip. Not sure if they still do. It's a good spot. WaterLemon key is also good for snorkling. Don't need a boat, but will need to get to STJ and rent a car. Fun day trip.Be sure to go a calmer day Lots of good stuff to see outside of the little key.

I agree but Water Lemon Cay is not any where nearby to Buck Island so that would require 2 different trips, perhaps.
It depends also if you want a diving or a sailing day trip.

Sorry I was trying to give a nice option which didn't require a charter in case the buck island turned out to be too pricey.
You know, like a day outing, someplace different with good snorkeling. Take the car ferry, drive to out past ananberg. Walk the rock shore trail. Snorkel. I thought it was good alternative. Sorry I wan't clearer.

Thank you everyone, and yes we were actually going to go to Anaberg one day on ST JOHNS anyway so the WATERMELON snorkle might work as well. Great ideas! 🙂

Annaberg is wonderful as is the bay below closer to Water Lemon Cay for snorkeling that blu4u mentioned.
If you go to Truck Bay first, you get in for free at Annaberg and vice versa for same day visits.
Check at the National Park Service Building down by mongoose Junction and see what their activities schedule will ba as during the winter season they sometimes have basket weaving, broom making exhibitions or other old time traditions.
NPS has other planned activities that you may enjoy.

When we visited Antigua we were not able to find any watermelon in St Johns. 😛

They are talking about St. John, USVI, not St. John's, Antigua.

Don't worry Beer. Alot of folks make the "s" mistake. In fact most long time residents take very frequent liberties with proper spoken English. No biggie. Welcome and have fun.

Buck Island, STT makes for a fine excursion. There are a vast number of day/half charters that visit the area. Dobloon, bones, silent lady are pirate boats that go there daily. Marriott has a few different smaller sailing trips there. Bolongo Bay has boats doing trips as well as Secret Haurbour. Dive operators go there. Adrimalty, St. Thomas Dive Club, Underwater Afaris, and Aqua Action all dive there. Never fear ever the small Buck has visitors.

For the locals - While the island name is St John, when you are showing ownership of something, such as visiting, it would be pluarl. Thus it is occassionally ok, if used correctly, to call it St Johns. I do not think the car barge goes to Antigua so I am pretty sure we are safe there. So thank you everyone for the tips and I think Little Bucks island sounds fun and we will probably do that along with a day trip to St Johns and a stop at Watermelon for some snorkling. 🙂

All of our beaches on both STT/STJ are quite beautiful so you can't go wrong where ever you decide!

When going to STJ on barge, get an early start as the time goes quickly and driving distances can be deceptive
Make sure you get a RT ticket (cheaper), know when that last barge leaves (schedule on back of barge ticket normally but always ask to make sure) and be there in plenty of time to make the trip back! Beaches are more crowded on weekends but that is true of weekdays, too, during our winter/high season.

Barge tickets are not interchangeable between the different companies so you have to come back with the same company you went over with, unless you purchase a one way, each way.
