My wife and 13 yr old son are coming to st.thomas for the first time. we are interested in renting a boat to tour the islands. Any ideas on reputable companies to rent from? How much boating experience is necessary or should we hire a captain?

Thanks for sharing any experiences or helpful info.

Larry

Are you talking about renting a power boat for a day or chartering for a week? Those are both options...

We will be in STT the last week of March and plan to rent a boat to cruise STJ and BVI. I know you have to check into customs in the British Islands. In light of the increased security, does customs require passports for day trips into the BVI or is birth certificate and driver's license still o.k.?

we will be in st. thomas from february 19th-28th and would be interested in renting a boat for a couple of days. We don't need any fancy just something to run around in and explore a few islands and do a litle snorkeling. What do you have available?

Hi, there are lots of places. The cheapest is pocket yachts at sapphire beach. There is also sea and ski and awesome boat rentals naughty nymph is (i think the oldest one) the cost is anywhere from $99. for a half day at pocket yachts up to 200 for half day or 185 to 395 for a full day depending on the boat company and size of the boat. THEN...you have to hire a captain (if you , like me, don't know enough about boats to trust yourself). THEN you have to pay for the fuel and oil you burn at about $3.20 a gal. I myself am looking for a few good people to share a boat with the third week of may. I hope this helps. Leticia

I rent boats all of the time so I have extensive experience in this question. On a side note if you need a captain, which I highly suggest let me know and if my calendar is open I'd be more than happy to take you, or you can get one from the boat company as well for around $120 a day. I used to rent from Pocket Yachts but I now rent from Matias at Sea & Ski since his boats have GPS and radios that work, and they are cat boats so they ride MUCH smoother in the water. Pocket Yachts are slightly less expensive but I find the extra $30 or so is well worth it to take out the See and Ski.

Plus See and Ski has an accurate fuel meter so you don't have to refuel as you would with Pocket Yachts which saves you time and aggravation, and you don't have to pay for oil since See and Ski has 4 stroke engines rather than Pocket Yachts 2 stroke engines.
