I am planning a December wedding on St. John. I have several questions:

1. Is Trunk Bay very crowded on weekdays after 3:30 pm? Our wedding is scheduled at 3:30 PM on Trunk Bay and I am concerned about the crowds...

2. How far away is Red Hook from Charlotte Amalie on St Thomas? Wedding attendees will be arriving on cruiseship at Charlotte Amalie and need to get to the Red Hook ferry, I'm trying to estimate time of arrival...

Thank You very much!!

I can't speak to the average crowds on Trunk Bay....but the day I went it pretty much cleared out around 3:00 so that the cruise ship people could get back to STT.

Red Hook is about a 25-30 min drive from CA.

They can't take the Charlotte Amalie ferry? It is closer.

It really depends on the day and week in December. Some days there are cruise ships in St. Thomas that have day excursions to Trunk Bay in St. John.

Early December is less likely to be crowded than late December. Also keep in mind that the tides are much higher in the winter. What does this mean? It means that many of the beaches on St. John's north shore have less beach area in which one can lay out and sit. In fact, some beaches like Jumbie and Hawksnest can be downright impossible to do anything on except swim and snorkel. This means that the tourist crowds are forced into visiting other beaches like Trunk and Cinnamon, which have larger areas of sand. So in essence those beaches are likely to be more crowded.

Check out the ferry schedules at the top of this page under St John transportation. They should be able to take the ferry from Charlotte Amalie. Otherwise they would have to take about a 30-40 minute ride to Red Hook. The above schedule will show the ferry times.

Katie: Are your guests getting back on the cruise ship? They usually leave the dock at 4:30- 6:00, which would be difficult to do with your timing.

I suppose they could, but either way it will be about 45 minutes from departing St. Thomas to get to St. John correct, and vice versa? Either a 45 minute ride from CA to Cruz Bay, or a 20 min taxi ride to Red Hook followed by a 20 min ferry ride to Cruz Bay. Our wedding is at 3:30,and I anticipate they would be able to catch the 5:00 ferry back to Red Hook, which would hopefully have them back at their ship by 6:30 at the latest. Their ship leaves at 8:00 PM.
