Snorkeling was absolutely awesome in the Caribbean off of St. Thomas, St. John, and the British Virgin Islands.
Sorry can't remember this island, but beautiful beach and water.
Next day we take the ferry to St. John on our own to explore the beaches and snorkeling from St. John.
Red Hook where this ferry departs is under a lot of construction. There is a car ferry which is nice, but you can see all the construction going on.
Here's a photo of the open air kind of taxis they have - still there are vans also as taxis, but this type is great for sightseeing along the way.
St. John is absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here we stop for a photo opportunity thanks to the taxi man. I think this was Hawks Nest Bay or Beach.
More breathtaking natural beauty....
We find our destination Cinnamon Bay and plant ourselves. Throughout the week we have occassional showers, so the tarp came in handy to keep our backpacks and cooler dry.
One of the neat things about nearly all the beaches in the area is that the beach is wonderfully sandy, but not far away either out a bit to a smaller island or to one end of the beach or another, one can find incredible snorkeling.
We had originally planned to stay for a few hours at Cinnamon Bay then stop by Trunk Bay, but we loved Cinnamon Bay so much we stayed there until almost sunset.
St. John's beauty is magnificent!
Sunset from St. John.
We ate in the small town of St. John for dinner at Morgan's Mango. My coconut shrimp entree and frozen drink Hurricane Marilyn were the best food and drink of the week. Soothing sounds of classical acoustic guitar set a perfect mood.
It was a long satisfying day on St. John, and Al and I vow to each other that some day we must return as we fell in love with this island. Some of us had a hard time staying awake to take back the very last ferry at 11PM to St. Thomas. Poor Dave.
The British Virgin Islands still to come......
