Is there any reason to bring a laptop along to check email? We are staying on the Coral Bay side of the island. Are there many places with wifi? Thanks.

I'm sure someone who's on island can give you more specifics on Internet connectivity, but my friends who live there tell me there's not much access to wireless connections, and I know that my villa does not have one. (Although when we were looking we did see a few that advertised it.)

Even if STJ somehow got free wireless all over before I left for my trip, I am very much looking forward to being no more connected than having my iPod to listen to Jimmy Buffett and Bob Marley. I've already told everyone I'm not taking my laptop and my cell phone most likely won't work, and I'm spending a week on the beach letting all my problems stay back at home where they belong.

There are a few private open networks in Cruz Bay that you can use to check email and such. There are also a few open networks at some of the establishments such as the Tap Room (the Virgin Islands Pale Ale pub). Otherwise there are plenty of places to pay for wireless by the minute.

As for Coral Bay, I am not sure of private open networks but I know that if you bring your computer to Donkey Diner they let you use their network for free. It is very fast too. While you are there you might as well get some pizza (only on Wed and Fri nights). Otherwise they are open for Breakfast each day.

I believe that the Post Office Center, located at Cocolobo in Coral Bay will also let you use their network.

We have a wireless network on the East End around our studios and beachfront. $40/week for pass.
