We just got back from St John and the whole trip was an adventure. I've posted a few photos on FLICKR ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/58551132@N00/22483471/) of the trip.
It rained about every day, for which we were greatly appreciative. Driving on the left was quite an adventure, particularly when large vehicles had the other side of the road. On Monday, there was a head-on collision where one of the cars had forgotten their side.
The roads were incredibly steep, and when you get a chance to look over the side you should pass. It could set off a vertigo attack!!
We stayed at Coral Bay which was just a wonderful place to be centered. We brought some food with us (envelops of tuna/chicken, granola, cheese, etc...) which was a lifesaver. The food was quite pricy and the produce was wilted and sometimes spoiled. A clump of wilted Broccoli was $3.50. One day we drove to Cruz bay and was able to get some supply of greens.
Snorkled at amazing places. The adult favorite was Waterlemon Cay, and the children preverred Trunk Bay because of the wonderfull beach. The attactiveness and easy access must be why there was a wedding both times we went there.
Headed north from Trunk the road curve and incline is quite notable. It had rained on my way in, and my car started sliding when I was only going about 1 MPH!! This is a place where I blew the horn before entering the curve. I don't see how anyone can get by without a car on St John, because you would miss so much not being able to take it when you want to.
On Maho we picked up some fallen coconuts. Back at our villa we were able to break into one of them (this is no easy feat for a Virginian) and it was wonderful. Our villa owner pointed out that there were some bananas just ripe and that we should pick some. Mad e our own smoothies that night which were great.
.
Thanks for the update on your trip. How did you like the villa you stayed at, I think you had said it was called Someday Isle?
