Hi all,
Thanks for the great info. I'm planning a honeymoon to St John for sometime in August (dates are flexible). We'd like to stay for two weeks -- yae! But I am totally overwhelmed with all of the villa options. We'd like to be able to walk to the beach and ideally we'd like a couple of restaurants/bars within a mile or two. We also want a hot tub and I assume AC is important in August. Any suggestions? Privacy is important (after all it is a honeymoon). I'm leaning toward the coral bay area (we'd prefer "off the beaten track" to tourist attractions). Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,
Kristin

There are VERY FEW villas where you can actually walk to a beach on STJ. When I say "beach" I mean a white sandy expanse of sand. That said there a lots and lots of great houses with beautiful views of the ocean. St. John is an island where you really must rent a Jeep and explore each beach. The beaches are not miles long as you may find in other locations but rather small to medium sized cresent beaches.

Coral Bay is a really great area of the island. A good place to start is to go to www.windspree.com . Windspree manages some great villas in the Coral Bay area. Some other great agents are destinationstjohn.com and vivations.com. Decide on your budget (remember you'll need to budget around $80/day for a Jeep) and your dates and then start looking a villas.

These villas get great reviews:

We have stayed at Gibney (rented both beach and garden) for our wedding and honeymoon - fabulous location, right on the beach - no hot tub but who needs one when you have the ocean 10 feet from your villa (great for skinny dipping at night under the stars 🙂 )
Definately would recommend renting a car just so you don't miss out on what we have to offer and if you stay in Coral Bay you really don't have an option.
Many congratulations on you upcoming wedding.

Kristin,

If you are interested in the Westin, I can assist you with two weeks from the 18th of Aug to Sept 1. Two Bedroom Villa but you may want something more secluded. Let me know.

My wife and I stayed at SeaWing for our 20th anniversary and loved it. It's romantic and secluded. I believe that it's now under the management of Windspree so you can talk to Karen or Kay about how private it is.

The view is awesome, and the outdoor shower is the right combination of romance, privacy and a little bit naughty. It has a hot tub, but I only used it once (frankly I don't see the need for a hot tub in the Caribbean, but they're great in the rainy cold Seattle area).

The only thing it doesn't have is a beach within walking distance. So you have to decide how important that is to you. If it's of primary importance, I agree with somebody else - rent Gibney.

John

We just got back from our Honeymoon in STJ. We stayed at a villa called "Cinnamon Tarn" in Catherineburg Estate. It was simply amazing. The view was like no other on the island. The deck was so nice & had a large hot tub that was big enough for 2 rafts (so it was like a pool). It was very private, there were 2 other houses nearby, but are far enough away not to hear noise, etc. Only about a 10 minute drive down to the beach. The price was kind of expensive, but the way I look at it, you only have one honeymoon vacation so why not splurge!
