Need help picking a villa for a family of 4 with 2 kids ages 6 and 8 for July of 2008. We'd like to be close in to town to be able to go out occasionally at night and close to the north shore beaches (not on the east end). Looking for a great view and pool with ac on a budget 2500-4000$ for the week. I've narrowed the list some but need some recommendations 🙂

You guys really seem to be in the know and I'd really appreciate any help. It hard to pick from internet photos as I've never been to St John
Thanks

John,

When we took our kids two years ago, (then ages 8 and 12). The challenge for us was finding a villa with indoors access to the bedrooms. I knew our little one wouldn't go for the idea of having to go outside to get to the rest of the house from her room. Perelandra worked perfectly for us. Two bedrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs accessed by a spiral staircase. The bedrooms have air conditioners, which worked fine for us. The house isn't huge, but plenty big. Nice deck, partly covered, and a pool. It's just outside of Cruz Bay on the way to the Westin, if you know where that is. There's a thread on here from a few days ago if you want to see more. And it's listed on carefreegetaways.com.

Thanks...someone also told me on another site that cara mia's bedrooms are separated by the pool. I wouldn't want the kids to need something at night and go into the pool area. Its such an amazing villa though I would consider using the two guest rooms and not using the master on the other side.

We stayed at Villa Capiz for a week in November and loved it. The main level has a great room, small bedroom and bath, great deck with not to be believed views (oh the sunsets!) and a hot tub. Downstairs, which must be accessed from the outside deck and down a flight of stairs, are two adjoining bedrooms, one with a king and the other with twin beds. Each has its own large bath, walk in showers that open up to fabulous views of STT, especially at night. This level also has a gorgeous new pool but it is fenced off (waist high) with a wrought iron gate to access. The decor is a bit dated but the kitchen is fairly new and well appointed. My husband is a chef and loved cooking in it (we ate in every night) as he looked out over the Caribbean and STT. Grounds are gorgeous. We would go back - an excellent value and only 10 to 15 minutes from Cruz Bay.
Happy to answer any questions - I may be able to upload some pics. I'll see if I can manage that technical challenge!

All the bedrooms have ac, but not the great room, though it has ceiling fans. We didn't need it in November.

I was researching a villa for our family of 4 and came across this villa which looks amazing. Unfortunately, it is booked for when we might go.

Sorry KC. Bongo bongo is only for ages 8 years +. The villas you selected look equally as beautiful.

I did see that over 8 note at the bottom. I wonder why some villas are listed that way...I figure they would want all the business they could get. I was also wondering why age 8 is always the cut off. I thought it must have to do with some sort of liability in re to the pool etc??

KC, it has to do with the pool and also with the contents / valuables. Some of the villas have items of such financial value that the owner doesn't want small children who would potentially handle or damage the items.

In my experience, the owners really aren't that hungry for business. They like it, sure. But, it isn't like they're really earning an income on the home anyway. Renting often doesn't cover an owner's cost of ownership. Protection of their property is of highest priority - not income.

And, they're also protecting the child. They might perceive hazards, other than pool.

You'll see various cut-off ages. 7 and 8 are popular ones. Guess it becomes an age of greater self control.
