Hi, everyone!

We will be renting a 4W Drive vehicle from a location in Cruz Bay (in order to have a place to park, while in town).

We are leaning in the direction of getting the smallest type hard-top vehicle. We feel that we would like the extra security of knowing that if we left personal belongings in the vehicle, while we are on a beach for instance, that they would be safer than if we got a soft-top vehicle.

The drawback appears to be that the hard top vehicles (such as the Grand Vitara) are a little bigger & we have heard that parking is quite limited at some of the more secluded beaches, that we might wish to go to.

We will be staying in a villa on Gifft Hill & do want a vehicle that has a fair amount of "guts" to it. Also, I have ordered a Feet, Fins & 4 Wheel Drive book and we plan on driving around the island a good amount to explore.

There will only be the 2 of us.

Any suggestions or personal observations about the pros and cons of any vehicles that any of you have personally rented, or know about, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all, as always!

We've rented a tiny little Suzuki on 3 past trips and have had no problems with it, we got a hard top each time because that's what was available and also simply didn't carry valuable items with us- leave the diamonds at home! We had no trouble getting up any steep inclines.

Sue, not to worry, any size vehicle will work. I don't know of any place that any size vehicle can't park.

We had a Dodge Durango for the week we were there and didn't have any problems due to its size. Parking in Cruz Bay was hard but not because of the car. Beach parking was no problem.

Sue, one thing you will want to keep in mind, the rental companies do not allow their vehicles to go off road. The exception is the road leading to your villia (if unpaved).
