Hello,

Thought I'd share some pictures from our recent trip to St. John. This was our second trip this year...

Regards,

Matt

Excellent work. What type of camera did you use?

great shots Matt, mine always seem more "white". Do you use a filter?

Thanks... I used a circular polarizer for the 17-40 wide angle shots. This deepens the blues, cuts the reflections off the water, and gives the pictures more "pop"

Matt

Those are great pictures. The best, most inexpensive souvenirs. My husband and I just purchased a new digital camera. It takes really nice pictures.

What is a cicrular Poparizer? How expensive are they? Can they be used with different cameras or just certain ones?

Roka,

A circular polarizer is a lens filter that screws onto an SLR lens. I imagine they make them for certain "point and shoot" type cameras as well, but I'm not certain. Mine was about $80 or so, but you can spend upwards of $200.

It's the same effect that a pair of polarizer sunglasses would have... excellent for landscape photography, especially beach scenes.

Regards,
Matt

Matt,

Thanks for the info. My husband was able to find the accessories to fit our camera. We haven't decided if we are going to get them or not. It think the total cost would work out to be about $100. The other problem we face is not being able to get the equipement before we leave. There are a few camera shops around that we might check out this weekend. We will see!!!!

Great pics. Photography should be your vocation. Love the head-on pelican pic. Only a couple of months before we do our annual trip to STJ. Can't wait.

Matt, your pictures are unbelieveable! We leave for SJ this Fri. and I know our pictures won't be anywhere as awsome as yours. Can I purchase some copies of yours when we get back? This is our 9th trip to SJ and I recognize the locations you used. I can show them to our friends and family and let them think I took them.(Just Kidding)

You have a real talent. How did you go about educating yourself in the art of photography?

Hi Deb, thanks for the comments...

I actually got interested in photography from our first trip to St. John this past Feb. I had a little "point and shoot" digital camera with me and became addicted... since then, I've upgraded to a digital SLR and (too) many expensive lenses 🙂

As far as learning about photography, I just experiment. With digital you can shoot and shoot and shoot and not worry about cost... much faster learning curve... I consider it my artistic outlet, as I can't draw, create music, etc etc.

St. John is by far my favorite place to photograph... looking forward to our next trip! Most likely our honeymoon in Oct...

Regards,
Matt
