Does anyone know the name of any ferry services that will take you directly from Cruz Bay to JVD? We are going on a Monday and the public ferry only goes Fri, Sat,and Sun. Kind of wanted to avoid going through Tortola... will be staying on JVD for a week. Also, an estimate on price for this? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

Your best bet is to take a day trip boat which is usually $100 a person roughly or to rent a private motorboat with a Capt which will run you $450-$500 if you have more people to split it with. I've found if you talk to a few people at the bars you will find people who will split the cost of the boat with you. I remember taking out one couple on this board and I found another couple to split the boat with them and they coincidentally ended up talking to each other the night before at Woody without even knowing they were the other couple until a few hours into the conversation. Small island. If you need a capt I'd be more than happy to do it free of charge if my schedule is open or I can recommend a very nice capt as well who charges around $100 I believe.

Have fun!

For those who have taken the ferry, is it really that bad? We've been to JVD before and know where we want to go so we thought the ferry would be the cheapest and most flexible option.

You may want to read posts by Bluwater on this forum. She occasionally takes the ferry to the BVI's or you could send her a private message. I'm sure she'll respond quickly. She likes the ferry - talking to other people she meets on there etc. I don't know, but I'm thinking less seasickness on the larger ferries as compared to a sailboat, which is why we're taking the ferry to Jost on our upcoming trip. One in our group turns green easily on the water, and we want to get there fast!

The ferry just only runs on Fri, Sat and Sun and you only get about 4 hours on Jost because it arrives at 10am and leaves at 3pm. If you have a large group going like 6-8 renting a boat is the same price asssuming you have 8 and you get a couple of extra hours there. Plus you can stop and see lovely Sandy Cay or Sandy Spit and snorkel on the way over. But yes sea sickness would be less on the ferry although their diesel fumes can be nauseating.

We took the ferry this past February and it was fine. We got on the ferry in St. John and if I remember correctly it took about 30 minutes to get to Jost. We got off the ferry, did the customs thing and were on our way to an amazing week long vacation on Jost. No hassles, no problems, and the ferry ride was rather nice sitting on the upper deck taking in all the sights.

The ferry during the week will take you to Tortola first. Where are you staying in Jost? We spent 3 weeks at the White Bay Villas over the holidays. John Klein is a personal friend. If you are staying there let me know. We also made friends with all the "belongers" and can introduce you to them.

Hi Cameron,

I think we have decided to rent a power boat for the day w/ my sister and brother in law.. that way we can play around during the day and they can drop us off on JVD, and return the boat to STJ. We are getting married on STJ and spending our honeymoon on JVD for a week... staying at Sandcastles, but have also heard great things about White Bay Villas. Total we will be in the islands for about 2 weeks, and I can honestly say that I have never looked forward to anything this much in my life!
