We're staying at the Retreat Villa on the far east side of St. John on Haulover Bay. Not sure of the road that is under construction (Hwy 10 or some other neighborhood road being put in by developers) but the owner said that construction was still underway. Is anyone familiar with this construction, and is there an ending in sight? Any help that anyone could provide would be GREAT. We're planning to arrive on June 26th. Thanks much!!
We were on STJ last week and spent most of one day at the East end. The roadwork we saw going on was on the road from Cruz Bay going towards the south side beaches (ie Salt Pond Bay), aka Rt 107. It was a repaving and drainage work. Flagmen kept one lane of the road open - no problem passing through. It's not a huge project.

Woops, I ment the road from CORAL BAY towards the beaches, not Cruz Bay...
Kelly, This area of St John is not on the road to Salt Pond, but on the East end road which has a big development going in continually into the hills. We drove into the new roads last year and could see that lots of new constructions would be going on soon. It depends on where the Retreat Villa is located on that road. You should ask more specifics from the owner because if the construction is right near the house it wouldn't be very peaceful. I know from our past stays in the Coral Bay area the rental agencies are not very good about explaining possible noise annoyances when you are there to find peace. If you haven't already paid your house fee, you should check out this other house in the same area which is more reasonable and right on the beautiful cliffs and it's past where your house is located. At the far end of the east end, is the Pebble Beach house rented by Cloud Nine Villas. We are going to stay at this house next February and it is our favorite part of the island. Write to me if you want more info on that area of St John. We love to snorkel and spend all of our time in the water on the East End.

Thanks for the info Renee!! Unfortunately the Pebble Beach house is already taken -- looks really really nice. Thanks for the advice though. And thanks for the update on this construction project too. Anyone have any other knowledge??
Have to take a 'day off' and drive around St. John to update my memory banks!
