We will be staying at Caneel Bay on St. John the last two weeks in May and are looking for dinning recommendations on the island. I have noted the various links to some resturants (Miss Lucy's, Stone Terrace, Tamarind Court, and Chateaux Bordeaux in Coral Bay) as well as the Caneel Bay offerings, but would appreciate some non-commercial recommendations based on first hand experience.

I looking for a couple of special dinning places suitable for a senior couple celebrating a special event as well as less formal recommendations for 'eating and relaxing'. We will most likely will be using taxis for transportation (because of auto rental limitations listed in a seperate thread by me on this board) so distance from Caneel Bay could be a consideration.

Also interested in a very special private sunset sail from Caneel Bay on May 22, 2004 with wine & dinner (TBD). I have already looked at the various web site listings for sunset sails, but most fall short of my expectations.

All recommendations are appreciated.

Let me know what your expectations for the sunset sail are - I can steer you in the right direction. Sorry can't help with the St. John Resturants - been on St. Thomas too long.
Pamela.

My husband and I enjoyed the casual places for dinner the best. The Lime Inn, Morgan's Mango, The Fish Trap, Roma Cafe for pizza and pasta (lots of people ordering for pick up to take back to their hotels) Woody's for good bar food and people watching and Chilly Billy's for breakfast. For our next trip, we'll probably try the BBQ place, Miss Lucy's and Las Tapas. My husband isn't much of a foodie so a good restaurant is pretty much lost on him 🙂

Expectations would be for a quiet sail about the island enjoying the scenery and sunset with some wine and food (if possible) other than just cheese and crackers etc. The sail would have to be from St. John and not St. Thomas. The only one that I found that appeared to come close was out of Red Hook and did not list sunset sails as being available.

Curmudgeon (and if you are romantic enough to go to Caneel for a special occasion, I don't believe your name!): I believe that Caneel has a fleet of Hinkleys that they can call on. Talk to Caneel directly. For special restaurants in Cruz Bay try Stone Terrace and ZoZo's.

Thank you for the recommendations. And if you don't think my screen name (Curnudgeon) may be appropriate, just ask my partner of 50 years, 5 children, and 10 grandchildren . They may offer some more colorfull but less PC options(vbg).

With age comes some liberties! You always have the ageing process to blame it on.
