We will be staying in a Villa for a week in June 05 near Rendevous Bay with a path to a pebble beach. Can you rent a dinghy in Cruz Bay for the week and then moor/park it in the bay by our villa? If yes, will I wake up and the outboard motor will be gone/stolen? Finally will a dinghy be able to make it to the North Shore beaches in reasonable time, or is too far for a dinghy from the South shore to the North shore and back? Thanks very much
I think you are already spending too much time thinking about the problems associated with the dinghy. Personally, I don't think it will be worth your time to rent for a week just to visit the North Shore beaches. I assume you will be renting a car, if not, you need to do so. Rent the car and get there faster. If you take the dinghy, you will have to find a place at each beach and moving from one to the other will be much easier by car.
You will also be able to visit Coral Bay and the East Side without problems. If you want the boat for specific trip, look into that or day sail charter.
Yes, you can rent a dinghy for the week.
Yes, you should be able to beach the dinghy on your pebble beach.
Most likeyly the motor will be fine. Most islanders respect the property of others when it comes to boats. However, if you want to be sure, you could always anchorit. What crook wants to get wet? Haha!
No, you will be able tomake it to the Northside and backjusyt fine. Remember, the island isonly about 20 sq. miles. You could drive/motor around the whole thing before lunch! Haha!
Have fun!
Thanks for the response!
We would like to rent for a day too. Is there anyone in particular that you can recommend we call on STJ for a boat rental? Do you have to have a boating license to rent one and skipper it yourself??
Thanks!
Hello Sandycwgirl,
On St.John you can try Noahs Ark Rentals in Cruz Bay for dinghy rentals. Crabbys in Coral Bay too. Dinghy rentals they will just give you a crash lesson on how to use it & instructions.
Water's Edge & Nauti Nymph on St. Thomas are options for power boats. You must have experience with boats but not a license. If you have no experience they are going to want one of their captains to go with you.
