My husband and I are planning a trip in July 2005 to celebrate his birthday(we are in our forties). We will be staying at the Westin. We would like to pack a cooler and spend the day(s) at different beaches and were wondering if beach chair rentals are available? Any other suggestions on things to do, live music(acoustic guitar, etc) would be greatly appreciated.

I would heartily suggest getting out on the water on a day sail boat. It will give you a different perspective of the island - seeing it from the ocean! Sail around St.John and into the BVI's.

You are going to have a blast! I went last August (2004). It was the greatest place I have ever been. We are going back in June this year. Check out the Beach Barin Cruz Bay for music. Go to every Beach that you possibly can. A rental car is a must to see the beaches. Driving is a little tricky until you get used to it but, well worth it so you can see alot of different things. I can't wait to go back!!!!! Go to as many of the sites that time allows. Skinny Legs is fun also (Coral Bay). Hope you have fun.

Yes, beach chair rentals are available at Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay.

We don't like to be limited only to those beaches but our backs can no longer stand for a day at the beach without a chair. For our last two visits we stopped at the hardware store by the Starfish Market just down the road from the Westin and bought inexpensive chairs (cooler too) so we could take them to any beach. You might also ask at the front desk at the Westin to see if they have any.

We are going this July as well. We are getting married. It will be the first trip for all of our party with the exception of my Fiance. I've found this site very helpful:

I'm very excited about the New Horizons full day sail we will take with our party of 10. We are also taking the BVI full day sail. I've also found in researching, the Paradise Point tramway has live music some evenings, as well as spectacular cocktails and sunsets!

Hope this helps a little! Have fun on your trip!

Concur with Mary Ellen. Hit Sweets on Johnson Bay, he has chairs and loungers already there we had the bay to ourselves. Rental jeep is worth every penny. Don't overlook the trails. Lind trail is right in Cruz Bay and will take you to Salomon's and Honeymoon--worthy of snorkel.
