After years of staying on St Thomas we have decided to spend a week on St John rather then day trips or short stays. Any thoughts on grocery shopping in Cruz bay? We are staying near coral bay and i know they have a small market but am thinking something in Cruz bay may be better. Thanks all

In my limited experience this is what I have found:

Best StJ grocery selection - Starfish Market
Best StJ name brand selection and least expired goods - Starfish
Best StJ prices - Usually Dolphin, sometimes Starfish ( I have read that the new St John Market near the Westin is competing with both for best prices)
Best Coral Bay prices - Love City Mini Mart
Best Coral Bay name brand selection - Lily's market
Most surprising selection in a small place - LCMM

Always check the expiration date on perishables anywhere you buy on any island.

Shop in STT, better prices for almost all items, tho depending where you are from, your jaw will drop at our STT prices.
May be worth the hassel of making a trip over or if renting a car on STT (if your plane arrives early enough to shop and catch the barge).
Bring lots of $$$! Paradise does not come cheap!

The OP says they've been staying on STT for years so probably know about the prices.

I'm sure they'll be surprised at how much things have gone up since their last visit!
I am surprised every time I go to the markets.

Just got back last night from a week on St. John; first time staying on St. John after multiple trips staying at Sapphire. I was very surprised at the selection I found in the Dolphin market. Prices? Meh....no more expensive than we found in the Food Center on STT.
