We will be landing in St Thomas and heading over to St John on July 4. We probably will not get to Red Hook until around 9:00 p.m. I have read that the ferries will be packed, will they still be that crowded at that time of the night? Should we just get a room for 1 night on St Thomas and then head over to St John in the morning? I hate to break it up like that, but I am worried about the ferry and how crazy/crowded it will be when we get to St John on that night. We are coming from Los Angeles.
advice please!

after such a long haul you will be coming into the ultimate bash, and the fireworks are usually around that time so everyone will be headed over.

check with your island manager, because getting around in cruz bay will be super-stressful for someone taking such a long haul to travel here. if you can overnight at one of the small hotels near the airport on st. thomas i do recommend it, unless your island manager has a plan b.

I would agree that you will be best served if you stay on STT that night. After such a long day of travel, the hecticness of the fireworks, etc would not be very welcome.

The ferries will be crowded - the ferry dock will be chaos -- you will NOT find a taxi -- and you will be entering a melee on arrival -- stay overnite in STT and get a morning ferry for the peace and quiet of a vacation start!

With luggage, and looking for a ride to your accommodations I will say you are crazy to try it, but hey, get a cocktail ---dance -- and enjoy Carnival! It would certainly be an interesting start to vacation.

Most of the people who want to see the fireworks on St John will probably already be over there, either from the parade earlier, or so they can get a good viewing spot. If you're on the 9 p.m., you'll probably see the fireworks on your way over or everybody else will be coming back to STT because the fireworks are over. I say go, but prearrange transportation.
