Do most people pay the 12.00/day coverage? Is there a real reason for taking out this coverage? The last time we rented the side kicks were full of dings and scratches and they didn't even bother to look at it when we brought it back. So I'm not sure if I should take this additional coverage or not. Wouldn't our personal car insurance company pay if anything were to happen to the rental?

Check with your credit card company as well if your car insurance doesn't cover it (I have liability only). Mastercard gold and above includes rental car insurance. I can confirm this works and they covered all the damage for the accident I got in on STJ using a Budget STT rental. All it took was a phone call to them to file the claim.

I called my Visa company and asked if I had a rental car perk that would pay if I damaged the car up to the value of the vehicle and they said yes I have that already on my card AS long as I pay with that credit card only. ya hoooooo. lol I'm going to get to save the 12.00/ day and save 84.00 extra charge that the rental companies charges and spend that on more island drinks. lol

you will just want to make sure that your credit card or insurance covers their lost money that coud be made from the car while it would be out of service. The car rental insurance does cover that. I have not used the extra insurance myself though, just a thought to keep in mind
