I am renting a condo in Cruz Bay for two weeks. How safe is this situation for a single woman? Should I be inviting a friend to accompany me? Thanks!

Except in town at night, being a single and safety shouldn't be an issue, but I think you'd enjoy your stay more with a companion. Also, the roads you'll travel to get to some of the beaches, explore the island, or to visit Coral Bay are like no others I've ever driven so having a co-pilot can't hurt.

St. john is safe enough during the daytime to not have a companion. If you plan on going out at night, it would be wise to have an escort but I wouldn't say you would be at great risk. St. John is about as safe as you get in a tourist town.

Have to agree with Chris and Kurt - St. John is safe. Being single and female shouldn't create a problem. At night as advised you might get more attention being alone then with a group or with another person; people coming up and talking to you and stuff (just be aware particulary if you plan on drinking).

Hi, I used to live on St. John four years ago. I was 30 and moved there with a girl friend. Everyone gets to know EVERYONE really fast. I think it is just as safe as anywhere else in America. I wouldn't hesitate to go there alone. The people are great and very helpful. Just be aware of your surroundings- like you would be in any town or city. There are crazies everywhere- yes, a few homeless and druggies- but to each his own. Good luck to you. St. John was the best thing I ever experienced in my life- I miss it dearly!!!
