Hello All!
Which would be less crowded on all of the north shore beaches of STJ? A Sunday in February with some locals free and enjoying the weekend but no cruise ships docked within a 100 mile radius, or a Monday with two decent sized ships on STT? I know how STX and STT beaches get a little more crowded with locals on weekends, but I do not believe I have heard anything about STJ. And of course this is not a locals versus tourist thing as we would prefer more locals to tourists, but we are more just curious as to how much STJ locals flock to beaches on weekends like they do on STT and STX. Thanks! 😎
February is the height of our winter tourist season. Lots of Cruise ship activity at this time of year, especially STT.
STJ does not have many ships but they do get the occasional ship anchored off STJ from time to time.
Best to check the cruise ship calender when you are here to see days with less ship activity.
Finding a non crowded beach on any island at this time of year will be a challenge unless you rent a vehicle capable of accessing out of the way locations and even then locals will be found enjoying them on a Sunday.
I rather like Cinnamon, Francis and Lameshure. Trunk and Hawksnest get pretty busy.
They are all pretty spectacular so even if you must share with lots of visitors, like yourselves, it'll be worth it.
Have fun!:D
February - good luck. Hope it's not Presidents Day "week" as that's the week for us "locals" to stay home - toooo many people and no parking.

Thank you for the replies. And no worries, it will not be Presidents Day week. I have the cruise ship schedule for both STT and STJ and as it turns out over both a Saturday and Sunday there are no cruise ships at all. On Monday there are two in STT. I was just basically wondering is if sometime on the weekend with no cruise ships would be better, or wait till Monday and the locals are back working with the two cruise ships. From the sounds of it though I guess we better plan on crowds either way in February 🙂
STJ less crowded beaches on taxi route: Jumbie, Openhimer, Maho. None of these have facliites. Or rent a car and explore. Go early. Pach a lunch. Bring lots of water. have fun.
Keep an eye on the cruise ship schedule. They often times add to the arrivals 30 days prior or so, so there could be more ships than you expect. Day trippers favor Trunk and Cinnamon. Locals favor Hawksnest, Maho, and Francis, and Sunday tends to be our party day at the beach 🙂 The earlier you go , the less crowds you will see. Have fun!
